Hello!

I have a Athlon 2100+ XP CPU, with shim, coming tomorrow. :p

I have also ordered, from a different vendor, an Asus A7V333 mobo and 1 GB of Micron PC2700 DDR SDRAM. That should arrive by Wednesday.

Using a pure, all-copper heatsink with fan (fan is 2 3/8x 2 3/8" x 1" high, 4500 RPM fan at 23.7 cfm) that, on the package, is rated to support up to 2.4 GHz CPUs (Athlon, Athlon XP, P-III FC-PGA, Celeron PPGA), can I use it without frying the CPU?

I will be using Arctic Silver II thermal goo between the core and the heatsink.

What settings could I use to make the possibility of a successful overclocking more likely?

THANKS! I am looking forward to getting the parts and hopefully running at 2800+ for the price of a 2100+... :D

You should easily be able to run at 2800+ levels. What is its stock speed 2.25Ghz? I'm doing 2.4 right now rock stable. I'm not so sure how great that fan is. 23CFM is NOTHING. My Vantec stealths moved more than that and theyre just wimpy case fans.

Interesting info about the fan, thanks.

I found a Swiftech MCXC370 fan, copper base, produces 33CFM and has a sturdier looking locking clamp. Looks like it'll do a much better job of cooling despite being part aluminum.

Thanks again!

There was an asterisk by the 400. "400*" and said something about manufacturer's details... DDR 400 must be a new standard?

Besides, I doubt I could get the CPU to run at the bus level DDR 400 runs at. I'll be lucky to get it to run at 166 MHz. :)

eh, my 2100+ 0302 runs at 166fsb at default voltage. On wed when some better ram arrives I plan to go higher.

2800's can reach high bus, but only with mod. OPP on xtreme reached 220 ....or 440 effective. so yeah you CAN max out pc2700 ram

Running cpu @ v1.90, system will post @2.525GHz but lockup on xp windows logon screen. system idles around 41.5c/106.7F
no problem running RTC Wolfenstein or Nascar 4 or basically any other games.

Good job, doing better than me. My board limits me to 1.85vcore and I'm doing 193x12.5. 193x13 becomes unstable. Anything above 193 gets me choppy graphics in 3dmark. So I feel I'm maxed out.

MBM says 41-45C idle. 52 is the max it ever gets full load prime95. I don't trust the temps though. They are all wacky, not matching bios or anything. I have a Nexus Multi-Function Panel waiting to be installed to get more accuracte temps but thats waiting to be installed when I get the watercooling system I won from logiccooling :D

Congrats on your new watercooling system... just be ever so careful with them spontanious leaks... hope you've waterprof'd your surrounding cause it's a mess when you spring that leak. But hoping to see what kind of scores you cange from your cooling system!

i thought that if you build you watercooling well enough that you never gets leaks.....

Watercooling systems are not for the meek, nor for 1st timers at all... when you look at the equipment that you're getting, the size of the connectors/fittings and then realize the amount of space that you are going to be working with inside your case, you can actually miss something, or cause of the fittings/screws/connectors size and your hand/finger size, it tends to get a bit fustrating, and challenging when you tighing up them connectors/fittings and hoping that you got the waterseals in.... blah blah blah... Dude, it's a royal pain in the *** with water cooling system. Any kinks in the tubing, or blockage in the flows, and it's all over for you mobo/cpu... But hey, if you got the patience (Lord knows you'll need it) and a couple of day (to do this right) then go for it!

Please note: There are alot of articles on the net that gives you some good insights on this topic... Any shortcuts to your watercooler comes a cost to loosing your cpu... Do it right, then its done only once

Untill of couse you find another XP to plug in that socket.... OI !

ive been liquid cooling in one form or another (fridges etc.) for about 2 years now and never had a leak. just check your fittings etc. and watercool with confidence! good luck :D
