250fsb on barton possible

In my opinion though, it is really dependent on stepping. I have a 2600, as you know. I just bought some Kingston Value DC w/ the Hynix D43 chips, DDR400. Even after loading those, I still couldn't overclock above a 203 fsb. I upped the vcore to 1.95 and I couldn't reach it. I noticed that the high voltage actually destabilized my overclock, so I dropped it down to 1.9V, and I made it into windows at 207 fsb, but it froze in a sec. That ram can go to a 250 fsb at 2.7V and at stock timings, so it is definitely my cpu. It isn't the best stepping, far from it, and that is probably the reason that Nerm can reach 2.7. I bet he has the same stepping as the 2600 mobiles that overclock so well. I'm not sure if they had a IQ.... stepping for desktops, but I bet they did. That is probably the diff. Even mobiles that don't have the I.. stepping can't overclock that well, even with mult. adjustment.

250fsb at 3-4-4-8 isn't that impressive. And I've had bad luck with Kingston value ram not getting along with my Nforce 2. I also payed less for my OCZ than that Kingston crap ram. Also my my OCZ sits stock at 2-3-3-6 at 2.5v without a hiccup. But my board gets nasty when it comes to going past 200fsb. I can get 204 but it craps out then in prime but 210 is stable in windows and gaming for hours....

Well. I've decided to get rid of my desktop cpu. Excaliber had some 0352 2600 mobiles that I couldn't pass up. I was completely stuck, so maybe I'll get a little higher now....... please please please : on knees : let me get higher.

Ive got a new locked barton 3000 - (333) - where should i start? im a little confused on where to start with a locked processor - im a newbie and it seems anything i read is information on how to OC an unlocked processor. I guess im a little confused @ whether or not anything i read is related to a locked processor HAHA.

FSB can go as high as the ram and motherboard can handle on a unlocked chip on the other hand i really doubt your mate hit that speed with only 1.85V most mobile bartons need 1.9V+ to hit that

Hmm, this doesn't sound right... somehow

For the instance of an Intel...

IC7-Max3 Proved of 400fsb capable
OCZ EB proved capable of 260/270 easily

But the CPU tops out at 256

Therefore FSB can only go as HIGH as the LOWEST-HIGH of ram OR mobo OR cpu...

Unlocked chips do NOT clock better than locked ones, mobile (laptop) ones tend to.

Just needed to correct that, its been staring at me for afew days now =P

I'm too lazy to read the thread but here's what i've figured out about overclocking the FSB:

You have 3 main factors:

The CPU
The motherboard (mainly, the chipset)
The RAM

If one of these can't get up to a 250FSB then you won't be able to hit it. However, if you get the right combination of things going then you may be able to get closer to that magic number. For RAM, get good stuff at high rated speeds (Like PC4000 rated RAM, not some PC3200 that you hope will overclock). For the CPU, you'll want a good stepping (IQYHA's for XP-M's). Lastly, the motherboard is totally a crapshoot. Some NF7's with the right BIOS can get over 250, although most won't get anywhere near it. The biggest part of that is to keep trying different BIOS's until you can get it higher.
