2gb ram - using all of it?

Got 2gb in my main rig. I found this great for a couple of games, Farcry and UT2004. They both can use up 1gb when maxed out, and any disk caching I had in the past stops completely with 2gb.
Now im running 2gb, and the most I use is about 1gb, how can I use the rest for something else like the operating system? Help speed things up.
Is it possible to set no page file and use the rest of my memory. Tryed this and it only used just an extra 100mb, I've still got 900mb unused during these games.
How use 2gb for maximum system management. So I never have to put up with harddisk cache.

Or if there is any link with info about that
(im asking the same question) :)

I know you can setup "ram virtual drives"... You may want to look into that, I think they might appear as a normal disk, but everything is actually stored in a reserved place of RAM. There has been mention of this on the forums and I'm sure thers a ton of JUNK on google. If I come across somethign I will throw you a bone. :)

ok have had a read of the thread.

how do I set up the ram disk for my computer best?

So far I download ramdisk and set my page file to the ram disk of 704mb. I dont think its any better, might even be worse.
Does the ramdisk handle itself or what?

It should be worse if you are doing that with the pagefile... I know that thread is long, and the actual thread that explains everything (it is linked and resides on 2cpu forums) is even longer - sorry about that. I read the whole thing yesterday (I couldn't recommend someone else read it if I wouldn't do it myself :D )- Very informative and I'm glad you brought this up, I have learned a lot.

Using a RAMdrive CANNOT speed up pagefile access. If you have enough ram to spare though still, there is a way to get some benefit from it - just nothing that will benefit the pagefile. You can let certain programs or files reside in the ramdrive, and it can speed access from them so you may want to try that.

If you want to understand this more thoroughly, there is a link that xwred1 posted in the thread I linked you to... Click on that link, and go through the pages just reading what "jeh" posted. That guy taught a lot of stuff in that thread, and it should help you understand.

This is my understanding, the ram drive just does its own thing. I just install and set the size and away it goes, windows manages it automatical.
I did notice a speed up with ram drive, over all responds time was better at certain times, farcry level reloads would only take less than 5 seconds.
This is how my 2gb worked out:
The most ram I ever use at any given time is 1gb max. I dedicated 768mb to the ram drive. During those times I now have 256mb free instead of 1gb free before I used ram drive.
