If I were to hazard a guess, I'd say it's a CUDA thing, as when I was running MW@Home, i was running AMD cards with OCL and it made no difference at all when I plugged a bunch of cards into a mobo with x1 risers. CUDA uses a lot of back and forth with the CPU as it uses it to "set up" the data to be computed as I understand it.

Edit to add the other topic i mentioned:

So looking through all three machines, all 4090s are running at PCIE 3.0 x16. The 3090 is the exception, which is running at PCIE 3 x4. After testing the environment though, I believe I'm going to pull the 3090 from use. Pushes the room over the edge as far as heat the AC can regulate, and performance per watt is pretty terrible in comparison. Other than driver differences, I'm not sure what else it could be. GPU load on linux is anywhere from 85%-95%. GPU load on Windows reports an average of 83%.

Looks like FoldingAddict's average PPD will exceed 50,000,000 by next Friday's report (Mar. 24, 2023).
His recent increase in PPD just needs time to average up.

3 WhitehawkEQ 48,540,005
4 FoldingAddict 39,960,103
5 Farwalker 38,506,360
6 dfonda_Team32 37,301,646

Will FoldingAddict pass WhitehawkEQ?
Tune in this week for the further adventures of . . . . . . .

That's only because 2 of my GPU's is offline, soon as I get back home that will be fixed.
