(PS. why buy SCSI when WD is so close in performance for alot more space???? )

100gigs on SCSI would cost 500$ vs's

(3) WD's for 348$ that gives you 240 gigs of space....i seriously doubt there is much differance if any between 4SCSI and 3WD

did you just ask that? or imply that IDE is nearly as fast as SCSI...wow..

a RAID 5 scsi would own EVERYTHING...what it does, it does basically a RAID 0, 3 of the drives are RAID 0 and the last 1 is a mirror drive..it creates a skeleton copy of the rest of the drives..so if one of them dies, you pop in another one, and you are on your way..it completely rebuilds the entire drive from scratch...

if you want some serious performance..go with a RAID 5 scsi with 15k rpm drives... get 4 of these

CRT would be better for gaming...uhh, get the NFORCE 2 board by asus..xp2800+, 1gb of pc3200 corsair cas 2, all dvd's are the same...lite one makes a 52x burner thats nice, i guess go with a 9700 but id get a ti4600 or something..but since he has a buttload of money..get the 9700....sb audigy platinum EX, klipsche 5.1, dont get wireless mouse or keyboard..they SUCK MORE THAN ANYTHING FOR GAMING...get a MS intellimouse explorer 3.0a...they rock my socks off, and ya know..why not just get him a gigabit network card? they are like $50 at newegg, and i really like my microsoft internet pro keyboard..it has a 2 port usb hub built into it

5300 bucks for a gaming/porno system? Did I get that right?

Well, If money was no object I would build this:

Motherboard: MSI 860D pro(8 rdram slots, SCSI ultra320, lan)
CPU: 2 x Xeon 2.8 Ghz (P4 in dual)
Memory: At least 1 Gb PC800 ECC (max 4 Gb)
VGA: ATI Radeon 9700
System harddrive: Seagate Cheetah 15K 36.7 Gb(SCSI ultra320, 15000 rpm)
Storage controller: Promise SX4000 (raid 5)
Storage controller RAM: 256 Mb PC133
Storage Array: 4 x Maxtor DiamondMax 160Gb(ATA 133, 8Mb cache, 7200rpm)
Case: Lian-Li PC-70/71/75/76
PSU: Enermax 550 watt
CD/DVD: Pioneer DVD-RW

Dunnow how much that will be. A lot for sure.

Basic data:
*Dual Xeons, total 5600 Mhz computing power
*At least 1 Gb RAM
*radeon 9700
*Ultra fast boot drive
*0.64 Terabyte storage array (=lots of porn!)
*Make ur own DVDs while you playing UT at 1600x1200

Now that, is a PC.:D

BTW will you be able to eventually use the 3.06 p4 on a dual cpu system?

I don't think a dual system is necessary, people. That's just overkill. Sure, he has a ****LOAD of money to build it, but we do not want to waste this guys money on **** he'll never need like dual cpus and SCSI drives, or a 52x burner.

For this guys purposes: gaming, watching porn, burning DVDs?

Dual cpus-not necessary.
SCSI drives-not necessary.
52xburner- waste of money, pretty much no difference at all from a 48x
Heres an idea! SCSI CD/DVD drives.

yeah, i dont think the guy wants a nasa super computer that tracks asteroids from a 100 light years away

Man you guys should have at least recommend 15K SCSI U320's. No point going all out with 4K when you put an IDE HDD in there ;)

To be honest, I would actually recommend the new P4 3.06 Hyperthreading CPU.

If he wants an AMD system just tell him that the pentium would be faster....I think that would change his mind. And about the serial hd's....they are fast but if you have one byte of information moving along the tunnel everything else slows down....it is the future of hardrives but not yet. I would make sure your fans are extra quite cuz he doenst seem like a person who would like an insanley loud tornado fan interupting his porn sessions.

As for the sound card. Go for the Turtle Beach sound card. The top of the line card for them is expensive but offers a richer sound than soundblaster. Now all you soundblaster lovers dont get mad at me but the fact is that most of you probably havent ever heard a turtle beach card....so save me the agony.

And back to the pentium vs. AMD.....buy a PCGamer magazine....they know ther computers and even they say the top of the line p4 with pc1066 ram vs. top of the line AMD with pc3200 ram.....the p4 would win.

Also by no means get the g4 ti4600...if you do that better get a p4 2.53 CPU cuz with a 2.8 the card wont be able to catch up.

Ok, first of all duals would be a waste of money and inconvenient. He will not be watching porn while gaming and burning DVDs. No need for dual.

Hard drives? Too much money to RAID SCSI. Sure, there's a lot of money, but more on that later. He doesn't need SCSI. I don't think he'll mind a tiny difference in speed as long as he has a few WD 120gb 8 mb cache hds in RAID.

Now, assuming he wants to stick with AMD, go:

Highest XP available, Barton if you can wait
1 gig of PC3200
A7V8X or Nforce2 if you can wait
2 WD 120 gb 8 mb cache in RAID
Radeon 9700, or whatever is the best card out there when you actually order this machine
Turte Beach Santa Cruz, better sound quality
Logitech z680 or Klipsch 5.1 speakers
Fan just enough to keep good cpu temp (below 50c) and silent case fans
Whatever cd/dvd drives you need. Anything above 48x a waste of money.
Good mouse/keyboard, wireless if he wants, defenitely optical mouse
smallest case you can fit all this into, with room for a few case fans
The rest, you know, NIC and all that

And then you buy the best ****ing monitor you can find, NOT LCD! Get a CRT monitor even tho he already has an LCD. He'll thank you when he starts using this comp. get the biggest, FLAT SCREEN CRT you can find.

Now I figured the monitor would be quite a bit, which is why I figured there probably won't be enough money to RAID some good-sized SCSI drives, but if there is, go for it.

Be sure to throw a PC Power and Cooling PSU in there...

As far as mouse/keyboard go, get him the MS wireless intellimouse explorer for bluetooth. And the matching keyboard too :D

You have no idea what you're talking about Zabomb, because 3 gigs of RDRAm 1062 PC ram totally owned 3 gigs of DDR, even if its dual.

Don't get an LCD monitor,t hey suck, get 21" + CRT, flat screen...

and AMD's PERFORM MUUUUUUUCH better than Intels, the 2.8 ghz P-4 gets ROCKED by the AMD 2800. Prometia, OC it to 3 ghz AMD, world record.

Whoever said WD was close to SCSI is a ****ing moron, as 15,000 RPM is by far double the speed of a 7500 rom...

Wait out the Nv30, German bandwidths in PCTUNER Quake3, it doubled the bench of the Radeon 9700 (r300).

Sorry buddy but your wrong about the AMD beating an intel...We are talking an Intel P4 3.06 with 1gig PC1066 RDRAM vs. an AMD 2800+ with 1gig 3200 DDR----in that setup the intel would win, its that simple...ask anyone, they would admit top of the line intel vs. amd the intel would win. However spening 720 bucks on the intel is completely pointless when you can do a lite overclock to the amd and make it equal or faster than the intel setup. If he doesnt want overclocking then go for top of the line Intel.

chill who cares what is better, the guy wants AMD

and anyone who says LCDs suck dont use a good one. Bad lcds are common and cheap. good ones like mine kick A$$ and are VERY expensive. CRTs are big heavy, and bulky. Now for the price, lcds are a gross misinvestment, but if u have the money go right ahead, they are great.

HOLY CRAP THAT HAS GOT TO BE THE LIFE

be loaded, lawyer, watch porn and play games all day with a
super cool GF and new car!!
