my prommy's sitting in the storeroom just waiting to freeze my next setup. im tired of dinking around with the 875/865 boards while even newbies are getting killer oc's with the newset stuff. so ive narrowed it down 2 choices: 1, an a64 3200 with dfi latest nforce 4 chipset.. or an intel 500 series cpu with a dfi's latest 925 xe chipset.. the first would be staying with ddr. the second would ddr2.. what do u guys think???

If you're real serious about having a future setup then go with the Intel stuff and the DDR2. Slowly but surely the DDR2 timings are coming down so progress is being made in reducing latancy...... However, it appears that with the coming of the new A64 cores (venice, san diego), we might see some killer setups with DDR1 on the NF4 architecture.... I personally decided to go with the current NF4 stuff since I have so much DDR ram which I have no desire to sell.

I would say go with the intel if you can find the dfi (and as I understand they are quite rare)

The AA8XE made it to 400fsb, so I would say that is a viable option if you can't find one.

I think I was just reading a review of the 875-T and it smoked the 925XE. They were able to run upto 296 fsb with an ES, before the RAM maxed out.

http://www.hardcoreware.net/reviews/review-254-1.htm

You do know that the 915s don't lock the PCI/AGP bus, and anything over 20% is going to be pushing it. Also, not all of the 925XE lock correctly.

My vote is either wait for the 9XX to mature, or get an 875-T. I think the key to 300+ is an ES CPU, which is what Im looking for right now.

Sure the A64s will hit higher memory buses, but other than that, they are, well lame if you ask me. Stick with what you know works. Try the 875-T. I know a few people on here are having great luck with them.

if you have a prommy sitting there doing nothing, i would say go nforce4/sli with a venice core (when their out) and some of the new ddr that can go over pc4800 speeds and crank the system to the max. that's your best bet. i mean with a prommy we could be talking way over 300fsb here.

The DFI offering is doing will into 330, personally would go there. However, the venice core does look promising, however it's hard to see whats going on with it since AMD refuses to build customer respect

Well if thats the case, sign me up for an ES and a 875-T

You guys are talking about the 875P-T from DFI right? Yeah, it's a great mobo! I love mine! Pretty steep cost, but it's my favorite mobo thusfar and I've had plenty of 'em. :D

Yep, thats the MB. Looking at XS, they were almost over 340 FSB. Thats pretty impressive on a standard CPU.

Imagine what something with an unlocked multi could do.

Yeah a 560J or a 6xx series would fly on this board. i'll probably change eventually, but I'm happy for awhile - I'll be out of the country for the month of April, so maybe may or june I'll think about changing cpu's again.

For some reason, I just don't think flapper got enough info one way or another to give him a strong push in one direction or the other.

He is an Intel guy...even though he'll consider the A64...I bet he stays Intel.

lol. you know me well.. only this time its been hard to decide..

im looking at the people in the AMD section and the Pentium section....

AMD = 38
Intel = 9

I think that explains it all you Intel fan boys :p

With all the headaches people have been going through with on the newer NF4 boards...including myself....my vote SURPRISINGLY goes to that DFI 875 board. There is a lot to be said for tried and true.

Thats cause there are 38 guys with problems vs 9 guys with problems.

Seems to me like if you want a computer thats more a of headache than anything an a64 would be perfect.

Fishy: I have been talking about the 925XE board for the most part, not the 875-T. The 875P-T is usually hitting 300-320 with a bit of tweaking. However, the 925XE lacks a clockgen, so windows OCing is no go.

i suggest a64 4200 when it comes out and get some tccd, and an ABIT AN8. Most stable board out there. And with tccd theres no need for high vdimm.
