Hey,

Just gathering info and advice on the above chip.

What is your experience with this processor, I'm after a clawhammer but I have been offered one of these for £100.

Thanks.

All Athlon64's are upwards locked. It doesn't matter one bit.

Are you sure it's a Newcastle, or just a castrated Clawhammer? 512k Clawhammers are all C0 revision, and their OPN code ends in AP. Newcastles are all CG revision to date, and their OPN code ends in AX.

Many websites mistakenly list 512k Clawhammers as Newcastles, so watch out.

The NewCastles - and yours is definitively a NewCastle - seem to be good overcockers.
I got one a few days ago and have not yet tested very much...
But I was able to set my 3000+ NewCastle to 2400MHz from the beginning.
And that is not even with default Vcore but with undervolting to 1,45V (default is 1,5V)!
Absolutely (Prime, SuperPI, 3DMark etc.) stable!

So I guess that the new stepping is not only improving RAM compatibility but also the production process.

Get your NewCastle, 100$ is a very good price!

Cu,
B3

Great thanks a lot!
Btw it's £100 GBP, so whats that $180?

I'm gonna go for this.
Get an Epox mobo soon...
