hi guys, first post.
joined as im getting addicted to tweaking and oc'n. C my specs down there, i have just built this rig and as new to this am having probs with all the figures. i have my cpu running at 2.45 at mo, and memory set 1:1 so at running slow (266) than can.
firstly can anyone help with the voltage settings in bios as they have high medium and low!! not to helpful, as my mem runs at 2.2v?
also can anyone advise how to get the best out of my memory as i feel it is underperforming, would i be better of running it higher (333).
also, to be a pain, is there any way/ benefit to clock my graphix. im aware the pcie is only 4X on this board.
p.s. i have done loads of reaserch alredy on these components and emailed asrock about mobo settings with no reply as yet.
thanks

just in case anyone wondering, i chose mobo as good upgrade option as had old ram, agp gfx, and ending up getting lucky as my bro ugrades and dished out his x1950. so i ended up with aboard that dosent clock to good for nothing, as well as the 4X pciX slot. bit gutted realy!
If anyone can recomend a budget mobo hat will do better for these components. please do

thanks guys, lots of sudgestions. not to many answering questions, but shant complain.
As i did say, i have searched aplenty for info, found some that has enabled a noob to get so far but would like a little more so i woul dtry on here.
im sorry aboiut the writing, is this just about right for you guys 'n' girls.
Also, as i said i had brought this board intensionaly for upgrading, but ended up with it and not needing it. I do intend on getting a new board soon enough. I am not sure which one would be best. Any sugestions would be great! thanks

First of all; QUIT SHOUTING!!! Second; welcome to the boards! Third, do a (g00gle) search on all your components. I'm sure you'll find lots of reviews and OCing experience for your particular setup. Fourth; edit your signature it's taking up way too much lines, only 10 are allowed officially...

Lol, well firstly, i dont think ASRock will tell you how to overclock their stuff, coz most manufacturers dont like what we do here ;)

2nd of all, that big text is very intimiating, and queer to the eyes :D

3rdly
ASRock boards wern't built with the overclocker in mind  with that, im not saying ASRock boards are crap, but you could have done better :)

I think now i should try again. I have resised my sig, my writing and hopefully the words will small enough to read now as they are not 'to big to read!'
the main points are that :
a) what are the voltages in the bios? low, med and high for memory
b) a good mobo to replace the one i know is not brilliant for oc'n
c) and would another ratio (3:2 at 333mhz) be better that 1:1 at 266mhz.

please help, i thank you for anyone who has/ will have had answered me.

Whoa, guys guys guys, that's not a very warm welcome. Infact I didn't even see this:welcome: . So first of all, Welcome :welcome: . These forums are actually full of nice guys ^^^.

Second:

1keep your memory multi to 1:1, try finding out with a program called cpuz what the voltage is on you memory. Just toy with the settings till you get the voltage as close to the rated settings.

2 Then you take the fsb and just up it (only a few mhz's at a time) until you hit a wall. You should check for stability with either orthos or prime95. Also, you want to check you temperatures use the program everest for that. if your cpu temp exceeds 60°C during the check for stability then that's really the limit (it's better to keep it a bit lower..)

3 It does benefit you to oc the graphics card even at 4X agp. Same goes for the graphic card, only a few mhz's at a time. (only gpu or only memory, not both at a time. and when you found your highest clock then you fiddle with the other varaible) the program to check for stability on graphics card would be atitool. You could use that to oc also, but most people don't recommend it. If you can use the classic nvidia view you should get coolbits 2.

4 You can use 3d mark (doesn't really matter from what year if you just use the same all the time, later versions get lower scores) to measure you improvements on speed.

Edit: Oh yeah, as far as the new mobo, an asus P5K dlx seems to be top notch now. I have one too, but I still need to build my new system..

thank you for your help dude,
the memory voltage settings on my board are low, medium and high. what i need to know is what they corrospond to, as my memory runs at 2.2v and i have no idea what volts high is.
Also the settings in genral are poor fo rthis mobo. It runs ddr and ddr2, also agp or pcie. so it is one of the cheap upgrade options that are great if you are on a budget and have ddr + agp and want to go dual core. this is what i had in mind originaly but i managed to squeese enough dough for the ddr2. then when bits turned up my bro swapped my agp gfx for hios pcie one. hense i didnt need board and am stuck with el cheapo board. oh well.
need a budget mobo that will clock well with these bits. im afraid the asus one is a little to much, lmao. thanks though

i had an asrock dual vsta and aparently the FSB wall for the mobo is 300....i never got anywhere near that...there rele not great for OCing...thats why i upgraded to and asus.

yea, im at 276(2.5gb) at the mo, and im not sure whever i will get much further. have had blue screens and shut downs at 300?? lol. had to reinstal ati drivers and bios upgrade. it seems more stable now, will orthos in a min. but may go for clean instal of xp soon.
getting 91,ooo with aquamark. and seems all good at the mo.

one bull, i have cpu-z and it has no voltage for ram, only cpu (on main screen) i have no way of changing anyhow.
when you say change the fsb for gfx is that where says pcie 33.3mgz in bios
maybe?

here is the specs(attached if anyone has the time to brows and/or advise)

thanx warrior

thank you warrior, i have searched high and low for these and it realy bugging me. found the 775 dual vlts and glad i havent trusted them, any chance you could post the link for where you found these as i would like to see if there any more info there.
p.s. my ram states 2.2 volts, i know this is a stupid question but do you think that it is a good idea to run 2.2 as memory (i think) is not running top speed?
thanx again

up the ram voltage to its rated voltage (2.2v) it is very safe to do that and for the pci-e leave that where it is at and then download a gfx card utility (i use riva tuner) and then download a video card stability test

thanks dude, i did just that and puter freezes as soon as i up it to high, it will boot and then as soon as i click on anything (even explorer, my computer etc.. )
at medium it is fine, i dont get it. psu is fine i think it certainly not a power prob!
any ideas.

Hmm that's weird.. higher voltage on the mem should give more stability.. So the FSB wall is not memory related then. My best guess is that the mobo can't regulate the power as good on high as it could on med so it gives less power to the other parts..

But it could also be a heat problem, can you feel if your ram is hot?

The thought of putting my fingers in my case with it on is not a happy one, is there a way i can do this safely.
Do you think that with the rig i have it could be heat, clocking like that. would that be the cpu overheating then as most reports have been that up to 290mhz with a stock heatsink. cpu-z states 45* with orthos running both cores 100%. but, when i boot into bios it says 38* and when i boot xp cpu-z states 29*. but it is stable nonetheless. ubtil i up the memory voltage.
im being a pain i suppose, but i am a bit of a noob to this.
I gota work on a new mobo, he he

this is the reply from asrock as i requested advice on my memory.
II cant figure out then how my puter is freezing with the volts on high? but fine on normal?

please help shed some light??

Dear Sir,

We are sorry this motherboard does not support 2.2V DDRII memory.
(DDRII : 2.03v, 1.93v, 1.83v) = (High, Normal, Low)

Thanks for the email.
Yours truly,
ASRock

1T, 2T.
what is the difference, it's just that i have just changed from 2 to 1 and i could feel the difference as soon as i booted, and aquamark ran 93,ooo. 2xxx better that 2T, i have yet to test it properly but ?
what is that all about, please someone help as i dont know if its a wrongun im a doing.
ta again
