Putty is pretty good, and you don't need special thickness thermal pads.
I hate auto fan adjustments, so I always set ~30-40%. ~40% is usually very quiet for all modern fans. Auto is typically up to 60-70%, so for most popular fans it's 2000-2500 RPM. Some series have really bad curves, and then fans go to 100%. I had that in the Gigabyte 7900GRE, which was passing 3000RPM on all three fans.

figured out again how to use the AB curve, using a .950v for 2.5ghz. Flat line the rest after that to .950v, gpu speed goes up to 2.5ghz but stays around 2475-2490mhz. temps maxed out 75c, hot spot hit 94c at one point. Played a bit of hogwarts legacy, when i put this card in my 14700k rig. Looks like i am going to have to do the curve editor again so the card does not try to kill it self.
Going to put the Upsiren PCM on the GPU and then the pads in the rest of the areas.

so i killed the PNY 4070S, was safe removing the HSF but clearly not safe enough! Well hopefully it can be fixed BUT i couldn't wait and got a new one. This time it is a HP card, dont want to hear it! It was a good deal, 1in longer then the other one and has a much better hsf setup. no tweaking at all in Hogwarts some places it hits 210TDP and gpu core speed around 2.7ghz. in 7 days to die, its got a huge graphics over haul, the TDP ranges from 180 to 202 and the core clock is always between 2790mhz to 2804mhz. Even at those speeds and TPD main gpu temp never gets over 82c hotspots around 90c, thats on the hot end. Normally sits around 78c with hotspots in the mid- high 80's.

Best build i have ever done! all thanks to M.2 drives! lol, no way i would ever get this clean of a install with sata drives, ect.

Do you know what is broken in the PNY card?

My ASUS 4070S DUAL has such poor cooling. I need to check if there's a third-party solution that doesn't involve a water block. I was using it with water cooling, but I recently switched back to the stock cooler.

Edit:
Now I remember that I had already checked the Raijintek Morpheus, and it didn't fit. There is no other GPU cooler on the market, and even Raijintek's coolers are discontinued.

best case scenario, reheating the die fixes it or it being re-balled works. Worst case some of the pads on the pcb have been pulled off and it cant be fixed. guy charges $65ish for troubleshooting, $75 for rushed work and if he can fix the 4070S $200 for the repair. If it cant be fixed im out the $65 and if i decide to do it then the rushed fee.

It's already quite a lot for a repair.
yea but i paid like $700 for it. really is a tough call TBH, i could sit on it till his prices go down. Its priced as new cards cost more to repaid, older ones cost less. the diag and rush service are fixed costs.

I suppose it's still worth it, regardless of what you plan to do with that card later. Well, maybe not worth it if you put it into a box and won't be used, since you already have a different card.
