HI,

I’m redoing my build and I had a question - I have a a giant Corsair 1000d and on the last build the adapter (the flexible fittiing that goes into the PCIE slot and then goes into the GPU card was squashed so much that the GPU card was under a lot of pressure and the card wasn’t at a straight angle from the rear of the case - it was bent.

Some photos below - how do you guys deal with this. I’m sort of at the point that I maybe want a minimalist build and if I can’t figure it out I’ll just mount the card regular way but … It bothers me and I’m sure you big brains know what to do

PS: I know that the build is hideous previously - I took out one of the hard lines because I added an external res. It won’t be hideous like that ont he new build but I haven’t figured out the aesthetics yet. Less RGB for sure.

Anyway : help - also if you can help me with a way to take out the riveted drive cage I’d appreciate that too.

Is there a way to move the card over to the left? I’d have to take the bracket off but am worried about how to secure it.

I haven't had my morning caffeine, but I need help understanding the issue here... are you saying the PCIe ribbon cable for the vertical mount was pinched somehow, previously? How is it not straight if you screw the IO into the rear? It's a flexible ribbon. The images (again, please attach these to the forum, not 3rd party links!!!) don't show me much?

Is the problem the IO plate sticking past the expansion slots in the new position? I wouldn't do anything. It is what it is if it's pinching the cable somehow in a different position. Doesn't EK give you a double-wide IO plate with the block? You can always cut it off but...................why? It's not a showcase type of case...

Just to show you what happens if images aren't hosted here...

Thanks and sorry for posting the thrid party did not realize

The issue is that the cable is too big and it gets squashed between then card and the motherboard and it pushes on the card. It is too big. Thus the card is pushed out and isn’t straight. It’s kludgey.

So the cable goes into PCIE then it has to be folded and there isn’t room.

The PSU is out so its hard to tell there is no room for the cable - the cable is like 8 inches long - is my issue the cable is too long? You can see the card only has like an inch between it and the mobo so the cable gets squashed and pushes on the card

Does that make sense?

I’ve completely disassembled the build for now so its hard to show it

In the third photo where you can see the cable it is not like that when the PSU is in - I think that’s the best way to describe it

I see that in the 3rd pic... I'd just bend the cable so it sits on top of the PSU. I absolutely would not pinch it.

The only thing you can do is buy another, shorter PCIe extension cable.

That said, even with the slight pressure it puts on misaligning the card, you should be able to screw it in the right place and have the card vertical/not skewed.

Thanks - thats what I think

This build will have minimal tubing, in fact I think I’m going to run them with hoses around the back.

Appreciate your advice

Your link doesn't work for me...but a PCIe 4.0 x16-capable ribbon is a good idea.

Thanks man - I have now decided Im going old school horizontal, minimal tubing, external Rad additional and I’m removing the 1X Rad on the back of the case.

Top Rad will pull in air and I’ll eject out the back

I won’t be able to get the new ribbon before all the rest show up and I want the card straight in the 5.0 PCI slot so no slowing down
