5.1 vs. Stereo Headphones

Im ordering my new computer within the week and I need headphones quick! Gotta get em with the rest of the parts so i need to decide quick!
I'm a very hardcore gamer, and I was wondering how 5.1 headphones match up to Stereo for sound location (ie...where are the footsteps coming from?).
Im wondering how Stereo headphones match up to 5.1 headphones for this ? And if anyone knows any brilliant ones for the above purpose, plz plz let me know!

Money is no object, I want the best i can get. I was looking at the Zalman's and the Sennheiser PC150s.

I'd say a good pair of Plantronics are the best overall for gaming.
