Im interested in upgrading from the 845pe chiset to the AI7 board with 865pe. I have a 2.4b and 1 512Mb stick of OCZ Pc3500. Do I only have 3:2, 5:4 and 1:1 ram ratios to select from??
MY 2.4b is a SL6RZ known for good OC's as its seen 3.1 when my memory bus starts crapping out. I am dissapointed with my current rig as I can only run the ram at 405mhz

What kind of potential do you guys think I have with the AI7 and another stick of OCZ Pc3500?

How does the 533 strap affect the FSB overclocking?

I would be happy to hit 175FSB with the 5:4 divider=437.5 mhz memory and 3150Mhz CPU. Is this feasable?

Does the AI7 have nb fan problems like the others and is its power managment good?

Fianlly-thanks guys!

ic7

Hey-

I dont have an AI7, but I do have an abit mobo (IC7).

In my bios i have the option of selecting the cpu strap (400,533,667,800) and then choosing from a large variety of cpu:ram ratios. For example 533 has 4:5 and 1:1. 800 has 1:1, 5:4, and 3:2. I suspect this may also be the case with the AI7, but am not certain. Thats really the only help I can offer. ABIT does have a forum on their website, perhaps it would be more helpful.

Dude im in the same boat as your in. Im getting a new AI7 board tommorrow to replace my IT7 max2 v2. I WILL be running my 2.4b cpu in this, I can do 3.06 without a problem at default voltage but soon as I go past 3.12mhz on my current board the system can become unstable rarely even though the memory can cope with it without errors. I hope with the AI7 to be able to take my 2.4b higher with a Vcore increase. Im hoping the new power circut will help me acheive this combinded with the -200fsb northbridge operation
With an extra OCZ 3500 you should be looking at an increase of aleast 50% more memory bandwidth of what you currently have. If you have BH5 chips on your 3500 then people out there have been saying this is the stuff to have.
I wouldn' be concerned about running the 4:5 divider because the gain in memory bandwidth is only about 100mb/s at best. It might be because the fsb is already very low and duel channel already provides ample bandwidth for a 533fsb cpu. I would suggest using the 1:1 divider and tightest timings possible. I know more in the next few days when I get mine running. Im gonna tap extra 100mb/s if I can using the voltage selector on the AI7 that can be selected to 3.2v, but if its gonna be to hard on the memory I will lax it 1:1 low voltage if need be to keep a stable smooth system.
The fan shouldn't be a problem, gone is the old tiny heatsink/fan combo, the AI7 uses the new northbridge cooler same as the max3 board. If its going to fall off of not, well I can't say but im sure Abit would of addressed this known problem they had with the old boards by now.
