A dedicated RAID card is really not all that better than the Intel Matrix RAID...
Do you have some non-raid-card numbers to compare with? I kinda figure if going from 16MB to 32MB of cache on a hard drive does all kinds of good things for hard drive performance, adding a RAID card with 512MB of cache should do wonders.
