OK before everyone tells me to check other things, I have ran Memtest on my memory and everything checks out fine, my PSU pushing out enough voltages to all the rails, and I have the most up to date drivers.

Now my problem, I have running and XFX 6600Gt with the Stasis Thermal video cooler. my temps are 51 idle and anywhere from 62 to 81C under load, usually depends on the games played. I have fast writes disabled and I have all the AA and Vsync settings turned all the way off in the drivers. But this problem first developed when i was running a 420Watt PSU that came with my Raidmax case, and the stock cooler, I helped the system run longer by adding a slot cooler. Now i have a 650Watt PSU by MGE, it the XG Vortec, and I have a better cooler. I hadn't been having these lock up problems until recently. But whenever i play Battlefront 2 or NFS:MW(Demo) I can play for about 10 to 20 minutes and my system Hard locks, In Battlefront 2 the sound keeps playing but that's it.

First off i would like to know if bumping up my AGP voltage higher than the stock 1.5V would help. and also currently the power lead from the PSU goes to both of my optical drives and then to my video card (no Y-adapters). Would having a dedicated lead to my video help even though the optical drives weren't getting used while playing these games? I'm up for any suggestions.

And on an additional note, The lockups used to occur in NFS:U2, and I can play UT2004 with everything cranked with no problems as well as Quake4.

Is this card overclocked?Sometimes when you overclock it too much it locks up.This happens to me in NFS:MS only though.

i would double check the mounting of your gpu cooler. 81c sounds too hot for load, especially with that cooler. my 6600gt used to run at 72c under load when i was OCed to 615/1230 with my vf700cu

dumb question but does it happen when the rest of your system is at stock speeds also ?

Only thing I have OC'd in my system is my CPU, and it is a 2500+ XP-mobile that is overclocked to 3200+ speeds (2.2Ghz). I have never had problems with my system locking up from my CPU, it has been folding for about a month now, and when I built the system I did a 48-hour burn-in with Prime95 and had no problems. but I may try reseating the cooler.

I also might add that I'm running my AGP aperture size at 256Mb and i have 1GB of system memory, would dropping it down to 128 possibly help with my problem?

My 6600GT does have 128Mb, I had my AGP aperture size in the bios set to 256MB

It can't hurt to try while you wait for an answer, what does changing the AGP aperture do neways? Sorry for the newbie questions.

I was having the same problem with my 6600gt before i bought the zalman.Games would play ok for a bit then lock up with sound still working like the game was still running, but I couldnt get out of the game without holding power key to kill system and that was at 520/945.Not a single problem since I put the zalman on and now it runs at 570/1.15.

What temps are you running at?

It seems like when mine reaches 84c+ my system then locks up, and in my previous thread I started to compare temps with my cooler people have said it seems like mine gets a little hot with that cooler, so im trying to re seat the cooler and put a better amount of AS5 on it.

As a Quick update, I have been reading in other forums about my problem and when I get home I'm also going to try setting my bios to run in AGP 4X instead of 8x. I am also going to then use Rivatuner and underclock my GPU in 10Mhz increments as to that it is currently at 500Mhz (stock) and I will also underclock the Memory as it is currently at 1Ghz (stock). Before I left for work I completely removed my Stasis Thermal Cooler and HSI cooler. I reapplied AS5 to the HSI and GPU but I am currently stopped as to that i dont have any of the standard white grease that I need to use on the memory. But what really gets me is this only seems to happen in certain games but I guess these are the games that run the card the hardest, and these are F.E.A.R, Battlefront II, and NFS:MW. not long after getting NFS:U2 when it came out i was having issues with the same thing untill i put a slot cooler in, and turned off Vsync, and AA in the game. And also as an update My Powersupply is an XG Vortec 600watt PSU that supplies 18A to the 12volt rail and I have ran a 6800GT AGP in my system in the same games with no lockup issues So im looking for any ideas on how to keep my card cooler at stock speeds. I keep the room the system sits in at around 68 to 72 Degrees Fahrenheit.

Ok, I got home from work this morning and finished the work on getting the card cleaned up from the old AS5 and thermal compound and put on fresh AS5 on the GPU and HSI, and fresh thermal compound on the RAM and reseated the ICEstrom. Now my idle temp has dropped from 52C to 48C and my Load Temp had dropped from in the 80s to the Low 70s to High 60s. I have a LAN party this weekend so I should get a real good test with the setup then. Hopefully this will be a learning experience for others.
