Hi All,

I've been trying to overclock this cpu. I won it at an Intel event over a year ago and Been running stock clocks but vs my Sandybridge it's pretty ****ty for gaming since It's running 3.5 vs 5.1 that my sandy runs. I'm trying to juice it a bit to get it up to the 4.1-4.4 that i see most people run this at. However, when I set the config in the BIOS and give it a little more vcore it only ever shows 3.5 in CPUZ in windows. The only time I can seem to overclock is using the intel extreme utility, but when I do that, it won't go past 42 multiplyer no matter what I do.

Any help here? What am I missing? This is driving me crazy!! I've been overclocking since a Pentium 100!!

Settle down lad, well fix you up. First off change your vcore to OFFSET. This way you can freely overclock instead of worrying about two things. OFFSET does a really good job of putting in the right voltage for your OC. As for OCing the chip reduce the multi and increase the bus vice versa and let us know how things go.

How does offset choose for you? This is about the 3rd time we've seen you suggest using offset voltage claiming its better. Also you mentioned it does two things, but only mentioned one.

AFAIK, when using offset, all it does is add to the stock voltage, right? So Im a bit confused. I dont nornally use offset as it adds a bit more complexity (need to see what stock voltage is and add the offset to it to get your totlal) to an overclock versus simply using manual voltage.

Anyway, OP, how about you list your hardware so we know what you are working with. It could be anything. That said, the 6950x should be able to just set some voltage, say 1.25, and push the multiplier up. What have you tried settings wise in the bios that has failed? Bios updated on the motherboard?? More info plz!

I'm with EarthDog on this, I have 3 i7 6800K CPU's that I've OCed to 4GHZ. Read your manual, the answer is in there, it's easy to over look stuff in the manual :)

EarthDog your right, Im apologize. BUT. I have had enough OFFSET experience to know that for me its a savior. For example. My vcore is like 1v or lower @ 3.4Ghz, After battleing with vcore for years I go let me use this OFFSET. I set it then set my OC. Computer booted right into windows and OFFSET had taken my voltage to the right spot @ 1.4v. It was right on money and crash proof. Im just saying thats my experience and your right I shouldn't judge my experience with his and what were trying to do to help him. I guess I got happy with my results and blattered or ranted out. Sorry forum guys.

Dude... all an offset does is add to voltage, be it auto or manual. If you have an offset set and leave i lt on auto you are adding to something which already tends to use more voltage than needed (leaving it on auto).

Its not about what works...im sure it pours on the voltage and is stable, but that isnt the point, nor remotely an efficient way to overclock.

Ive also heard enough about you saying to raise bclk to 120....i think you are swimming out of your lane here man and really dont have a solid foundation of knowledge as to how things work. The advice being shared is questionable at best in many cases.

I apologize for being blunt but you seem to just gloss over things post in weird order, etc. Its just really hard to follow.

Yes sorry, BCLK can be dangerous for some. Your right its better to start off with multiplier,, then play with the BCLK just a tad to get that OC you need.

Oh and I have no OFFSET options , its either ON ,, or its manual and I adjust the voltage myself. Also my LLC is on Extreme. Ive noticed from 3.8 to 4.2 and 4.4 and what not the OFFSET without any other OFFSET option like how much offset etc, does wonders. So you put offset and I've tested this,, it puts it like a tad notch higher then the voltage you would normally use. But that can only mean one thing,, that it can be a more stable system.

Hey buddy I remember you from the Intel lanfest event! That was a hella of prize considering your sandy bridge cpu was failing on you. We talked for a little bit and I remember how you drove to frys to pickup the only x99 motherboard they had left in stock. We also talked about cases for a while and I believe you bought a Corsair 570x or something along those lines.

Why is BCLK dangerous (for anyone)?

I'm not sure what your 2+ generation old board does. But typically, an offset isn't on and off. Perhaps you enabled it and there is another option below it to add mv?

EDIT: I looked up your BIOS and wouldn't you know, there is an option there to add mv to vCore. It is not just an on and off thing as you suggested. Killing me with your misinformation man.... :(

EDIT: The OP hasn't been back since he posted... but let's get back on topic. Oraganik, if you have anything else, PM me. Otherwise, lets stop with this offset nonsense you keep spreading here incorrectly.

OH OH wait a minute. My bios is not like that. Its the old type with blue screen ,,,,,, this UEFI BIOS added the offset options,, My BIOS looks totally different its not UEFI alto it says it, its not juicy interface like this..

What bios revision do you have? That review was January 2012, ~2 months after release. So assuming that is true, youd have a early version, really outdated. There are bios versions in 2014 for that motherboard. ;)

Edit: They used bios 0906 in the review...

Anyway, the point is on his system offset needs mv. You just cant enable it and expect magic to happen. ;)
