:D yeah I know...just kidding with you. My Voodoo 2 would just weep...
You can build a custom trash water cooler for it. That would suit your scrap pc better I think.
Give the gpu mod a go too! :D

Its very impressive, well done AMD and all that....

There is just one problem, there is a great yawning chasm between the £120 7770 and (what will probably be a £210 7850) in price and performance.

I was looking for something substantially better then the 7770 at around the £150 / £160 mark, something right in the middle of that big empty space.... and i think i'm probably not in the minority there.

What we got was something VASTLY better for much more money, the 7870 is as fast as a GTX 580 so yeah... granted they are very good indeed for that money but still out of my reach, and probably alot of others too.

Come on AMD, what will fill that gap? a 7790 for £150?

My poor old 5770 is showing increasing signs of imminent deaf!!!! i can't wait any longer. :bang head

Thanks. :)

I guess my next question is will it run BF3 in Ultra @ 1680 x 1050? with just 1GB of memory?

Maybe (when i get a bigger monitor so i can actually see) in 1920 x 1080P?

Does anyone know when these cards will be avail for purchase? I know they were announced but every place I check does not have them for sale yet. (7870)

Expected some time late this month.

http://en.expreview.com/2012/02/19/amd-radeon-hd-7800-series-specifications-surfaced/21209.html

AMD have a full run down of the card up on there home page, nothing yet on the dates, but the consensus is end of March and they are sending out test units to review sites, and partners / card manufacturers got the blueprints a while ago.

Its pretty imminent :bday: :ty::popcorn::bump::comp::clap:

1gb + bf3 @ 1920x1080 ultra would be an issue. Bf3 @ that res uses more than 1gb

That's what i thought.

Damn!!!! :cry:

Thanks :)

It will have to be a £160 2GB 6870 which is 80% faster then my 5770 and don't need to Overclock but will anyway.

Or a GTX 560 2GB provided they bring the price down from £180 to £160, and soon. I have always preferred there drivers to AMD's sometimes funky barrel of laughs.

oh ****ing FINALLY!

i'm noticing the 2 gigabye boards at the time of posting is a bit interesting. one of them is not a reference design, and remember from the reviews both 7870 and 7850 had the same PCBs.
interesting stuff, usually non standard PCBs take a while onger to come about. also none of them have the standard cooler either which i find interesting but i feel the ones one all of them currently would do better than the standard leaf blower kind

oh and also, 2 manufacturers that generally command a bit more per video card than other than say HIS or Sapphire, the rest of the line up may have some better prices.

regardless i think i am going to get one soon. trying to make it to the next check to see what i have. i am going to need a CPU to match because i am getting left behind in processor power aswell

7870 very similar performance to 7950 very impressive card i must say. My prediction of price cuts when nvidia kepler comes out.

7850= £199.99
7870=£249.99
7950=£299.99 <<<<<what i want to go for
7970=£349.99
7990 = £449.99

that will ruffle nvidia's feathers

Lets hope so... they would have to respond to that, driving prices into the ground is good for the likes of us.
