8500 drivers

I am unsure of what drivers to use at the moment. I am not running service pack one of xp so upgrading to the latest driver release isnt the best idea, and cause my comp wouldnt go into windows after i rebooted when installing those, I was using the 6071 prior to this and they were working great. I was playing moto gp at 1600 x 1200 which was on a 1,4 tbird also and it ran fine, but that was about a month ago. I am on a fresh format with a 2200 and still radeon 8500 with 6071s and its lagging im trying to figure out if a format would be the best option. I tried upgrading to atis second most recent release and I tried ut03 which was running alright on 6071s and now it lags. So im trying to find the best ones that are gonna play both games fast.

Any ideas? I tried the rage 3d drivers but they didnt work out for me so good a while back and i dont know if its worth trying them now.

you should really download that SP1, it fixes MAJOR security holes in XP... i can't really think of a reason why not to get it. also the newest cat drivers are the best, so just download the pack, install those, and be on your way.

Try the 6094 drivers

Formated, upgraded to sp1, installed new catalyst drivers.

3d mark score (with default settings) = 8813
3d mark score (with default settings) on the 6071's = 9091

So a little reduction with the new drivers, maybe theres some sttings in the advanced tab I need to change?

I tried the newest drivers and End up with only 6000 ponits in 3Dmark. I normally get over 10,000. I noticed a lot more quality, but the FPS are way down. I might have to re look at it and tweak some settings some place.

fishy- you say newest drivers as in 6166? The Catalyst 2.3's?
