Should have it by friday or saturday... bought it locally so just in case there is some sort of mix up I can go throw it back in there face :D Tomarow I am going to order a sk-6 and a 256mb stick of ddr from crucial.com. This is seting me back about 400$ but I am expecting one rocking system after this... But I would like to check with you guys do you know of any incompatibilites with that mobo and...

geforce 2 ultra
256mb pc2100 ddr from crucial
sb pc128 which will soon be upgraded to a sb live! 5.1
ibm deskstar 75gxp 30gb harddrive
Cheapy D-Link network card
Creative 52x cd-rom

Well pretty sure thats it... are there any problems I should be expecting??

Ditto that Placid.... you've got a 50/50 chance of getting a good board... hopefully its an early production model.

I am tryng to download the manual so I already know exactly what to do when I get it but there page is so so slow =/ O well hehe anyone know how long it takes crucial.com to ship? My mobo will be useless cuase I dont have any ddr yet...

Whaaaa? a 50/50 chance?! and I know for certain its not an early production model... Its straight from the factory I am geting it friday becuase epox is restocking all there resellers friday it seems... should i be woried?!

They have been having issues with version 1.0 of this board. Hopefully your power supply will have enough gusto to handle it. go to AMDWORLD.COM for the scoop on the power problems and other issues.. Maybe these new boards coming out of epox will have a fix..

Fed express is bringing me a 8k7a today.
It will be my 1st amd and 1st epox motherboard.
I always do research before I buy a product I hope I get a good sample so I do not have to return it.
I am hoping more like a 90% chance that I will get a good one :)

Btw: The cutting q6 thing all started from epox's tech support suggesting that a customer do this to fix his problem.
You can read the e-mails here:
The posting about cutting of the power supply cables on that site is really not a very good idea and at least one person who actually did it only got a +.01v increase.

I'm gonna order a 8k7a and a T-bird 1.2, in a week or two. I hope I will get a "problem-free" board. I'm looking so much forward to get the new stuff!

BTW Does anybody know if my Taisol CGK760092 can handle the heat from a T-bird @1300-1500MHz?

Well I don't know what excactly happened but my 8K7A+ is now rock stable over 155 fsb at cas 2!!! This freaks me out though.. I am now able to run these settings 8-8-8-2-2-2-2 and I know for certain yesterday that it wouldn't do that at 148fsb I think taking out the "second stick" of crucial pc2100 256 mb made the biggest diffrence.. I burned it in alone last night at 150 fsb with the same settings listed above.. My memory scores are much higher as well 703/944 as reported in sisoftsandra TE I know for certain my 1.2ghz Axiar /w266fsb processor can handle more.. Got her up to 1475 now and she wants more!! Using 2.02 Vcore Temps are 109f running Seti 24/7 w/ a Sweet looking "lapped Thermalright Sk-6 and a 7,000 rpm delta" 2.8v for the ddr dimms.. 5+ lead is constantly at 4.94-4.98v since adding a Enermax EG465-VE 431 watt powersupply 44 amps on the +5v lead!! ( this thing is a beast!!)
To get any more Mhz out of this Axiar I'm pretty sure I'm gonna have to switch to watercooling well any ideas on a sweet watercooling solution? Money Isn't a problem here I'm preparared to spend 200-400 bucks for a sweet setup..
Thanks for all your help guys
This forum rocks!!

What is all the malarky about people talking bad about this Epox board i don't know i havn't found anything wrong yet i think this is a great board i like this board much better then all the Asus defective garbage that i have bought in the past this is my first epox board and it rocks..

I think if you order before 11 am cst same day.

I just got my board its a rev 1.0.

Sounds like rev 1.0 is doing beter then 1.1 corect? Or do I have this backwards... I am pretty sure I will get 1.1 or 1.2 becuase like I said its coming straight from the factory... Epox is restocking everyone friday it seems, at least the 3 companys I called lol. "we are out of stock on that board but will have it restocked on friday" is what they all said... Maybe I can get a rev 1.2 and they already fixed the 5v crap...

I will let you know if I have problems later tonight after I install it.
I think 85-95% of the problems are user related, the 5v thing I belive can occur on either the 1.0 or 1.1 version.
I am not gonna worry about it if it reads low as long as it runs well :)

I hear ya! And btw if your board does have problems you can contact epox and they will swap it or repair it for you! They seam like they are doing a very good job about this 5v issue...

I was the person who alerted this site about the 8K7A. I was not doing it to bash the motherboard. I own this board and and another Epox board and they both work fine, and I highly recommend them. I just wanted to let folks know that there can be some issues with this motherboard overclocked or not. This board is in no way a peice of junk and I don't think the folks at overclockers.com posted this to bash the board. It was just to let folks know there can be problems with some boards. If you have a quality power supply then you should be all set. these problems were occuring in non overclocked boards as well as overclocked ones. If you drop a heavy CPU into one and run a geforce card and have lots of goodies in your box you are going to put a strain on the powerplant if its not AMD approved. There were other minor issues with DVD playing and printers that were also addressed as far as I can remember these problems were also not solely caused by folks cranking up their boards

I do not consider myself a hardcore overclocker either but I found the information informative. I'm glad I went with a quality power supply now that I have read how hungry this board can be. I also know where I stand with this board and what might happen if I do start to feel froggy about turning up the juice a bit much :) I find lots of articles on this site and others that are out of my league, I'm not insulted by them I just get what I need to know from them if anything and move on. I'm quite happy at the level I'm at now but its nice to read about some of the crazy stuff folks do with their boxes.

The whole article on AMDWORLD is still in support of this board if you read the very beginning of it. It was posted to help discourage people from not buying the board because of some very fixable issues. Granted some of the fixes might be a bit radical for some including myself but that does not mean you have to use the radical ones. The problems stated in the article were not solely the problems of radical hardcore overclockers, stock board users can have similar problems I feel the attention to this article was justified and it's just up to the reader to sort it out and see what pertains to them and what doesn't.

I'm sorry you feel the way you do. It was not my intention to alert the the users of this site about this board so that it could be bashed and made out to be a peice of junk. I did not gather that from the main page link here nor the AMDWORLD article. I am very happy with my epox boards and I try to share as much information with other users of these boards so that they may continue to enjoy using this product and fix potential problems which might lessen their opinion of epox boards. Lots of problems have easy fixes and if the masses don't hear about it then they are quick to condemn a board as you have pointed out. My intention was to prevent that and the AMDWORLD article does its best to still praise this board. I quote from the very beginning of the article :
"In defence....
The EPOX EP-8K7A motherboard which was recently reviewed here at amdworld had gained some rather debatable issues and instability .The next few paragraphs will try to help you eliminate those and any thoughts of fear when purchasing this excellent motherboard. "

What they stated above was what my worry was and it was my intent to provide fellow users a link to a resource to help calm their concerns and identify and fix issues if they had them.

I just ordered an 8k7a+ from epox. I wish I would have known you could order directly from them.

how much is it if u order it direct? I got mine for 130 but it was a local store and no shiping which also always makes it easier to return just in case of any DOA's or something. I never buy mobos online anymore just becuase I had a bad expierence the last time, rma's can really kill ya sometimes.

I can see how some folks who take stock in just reading a caption without actually investigating it further might make an early judgement. I have never been one of those people and it's quite difficult to put myself in that same mindset. However, I will acknowledge that it exists as we are all different and have our own way of looking at things. I think a general disclaimer for anyone who gets involved in this hobby whether they overclock or not is that like people, computers and their components are so diverse and have to be made to get along with so many different other parts that things might not go as planned for one user as with another. Theres some truth to not beleiving anything that you hear and only half of what you see! :)

I always try to keep the frame of mind that no matter whats said about a product your mileage may vary :)

Steve
