Between the two which is a better value. The 9600 Pro is fast 400 mhz core 300 mhz memory ( but only 4 pipeline) also a 128 bit DDR memory interface.

The 9700 has 8 pipelines for faster fill rates but is not as fast
( 277 core / 270 mhz memmory ( 540 mhz). In addition to a 256 bit DDR memory interface. Also the 9700 bios can be flashed to the 9700 Pro bios via bios available from gigabyte. The price difference is between $20 -40.

If all my information is correct than I would think the 9700 is the better deal.

plz y even ask,the 9500pro beats the 9600pro even at 500core speeds, get the 9700 non pro and overclock it to a pro,you will be happy

go to newegg get an fic 9700np for $229
use gigabytes flasher and flash mufu's 9700pro bios that linked up in the stickys.
these have the 3.6ns hynix chips wich oc like mad.
mine maxs out at 385/356 which is above even 9800pro specs.
i use 9800pro drivers and beating the snot out of 9700pro's in 3dmark 2k1 and 2k3

this is about the only 9700np i know of worth getting at the moment.if not this card id go with 9600pro

anyone getting tired of me saying this yet? lol

No question, the 9700 np is the best deal for performance and price. The 9600 pro is not as good as a 9500 pro, even it is based on 0.13 u, due to its 4 pipelines compared to 8 in 9500 pro and 9700 np/pro.

Best price-performance for 9700 pro perofornance: overclocking 9700 np (~US$220-240)

Best price-performance for 70-80% 9700 pro performance: overclocking 9500 pro (~US$180)

Risky (about 50-60% success) mod for 9700pro performance: soft mod and overclocking 9500 np (~US$150)

I think the 9600 pro is not even as fast as a 9500 pro.

Comparing to a 9500 pro, the 9600 pro fillrates are:

the Pixel Fillrate drops from 2200 to 1600 (million pixels/sec)

the Texel Fillrate drops from 2200 to 1600 (million texels/sec)

the Triangle Rate drops from 275 to 175 (million triangles/sec)

At first glance, I was attracted by its price $169-$199 SRP, and impressed with its 0.13 micron core (TSMC process) for its high stock clock rate 400 MHz (even higher than the 9800 pro 380 MHz) and overclocking potential.

Apparently, this does not make up for the lack in its architectural reduction compared to a 9500 pro: rendering pipleines (8 to 4), pixel and vertex shader engines (4 to 2).

The 9600 pro memory bus is 128, whereas 9700 np is 256.

The 9700 np is better, if you take into account of the possiblity of overclocking towards a 9700 pro.
