9600XT crashing after 10-20 min during games

I got a friend trying to run his 9600XT on an Asus A7V8X-X
w/ AMD 2500+ and ONLY 256MB system memory running XP PRO SP1.

His problem is that the games will crash after about 10-20 minutes of use.

He tried Catalyst - 3.8, 3.10, and Omega 3.10 drivers that didn't work for him.
He also did a clean install of XP PRO SP2.

My solution was to get more memory since 256MB for XP PRO is pretty uselsess. I think that will solve the problems but do you guys have any other suggestions?

We experienced the same behavior on a friends P4 3.0C system and a 9600XT 256MB. It was eventually solved by completely disabling AGP aperture size (set it to '4') and using Catalist 3.9 that came on the supplied CD.

SP2??? Why the hell has he got SP2 installed... doesn't he know that its still in the beta stages with MAJOUR!!!! problems???
