the subject says all...do i upgrade from my ti4600 to a 5600fx or 9600xt radeon?

thoughts on either card? or should i just drop a little extra money and go with a 9700pro?

The 9700p would definitely kick the butts of both the 5600u and 9600xt. However if you'd rather not pay that much the XT would be better preforming.

yah, i have my ti4600 and whatnot but i wanna try ati since they have more pipelines and make their cards much more efficient lately. so now that you guys have given your input, what should i get with around $200

Definately the 9600XT....I've been reading a fair amount about it....about the only card that may have ne edge over the 9600XT that's similar in price would be the 5700, and I think the 9600XT still come out on top...but just barely.

im a huge nvidia fanboy...

or atleast was....

now i need a good card that is dx9 compat. and will let me go high res WITH AA and AS on high

I agree with everybody else. If you can get a 9700, go for it, but of the two choices listed, the 9600XT is far superior

For the same price of a 9600XT get a 5900XT/SE

I recently posted Benchmarks for the 5900SE/XT with some 9600XT benchmarks

I vote for the 5900XT/SE (It depends on what the board maker wants to call it). If your thinking SE means slow edition like ATI's SE cards your wrong. Its memory interface is exactly the same as a regular 5900/ultra, it's not cut in half like ATI's SE cards.

The 5900SE is basically the same as a 5900 but it has slower 700 MHz 2.8ns ram. The ram runs at lower latency so it makes up for its slower clock speed. It benchmarks about the same as a 5900 but costs $188 at newegg.

It’s even a better deal right now because they are bundled with a free call of duty game or coupon, that’s fifty bucks to buy separately. So if you are looking to buy call of duty, the card costs $138 shipped once all is said and done and destroys the 9600xt, 5700ultra and its performance level is up there with a 9700pro and a 9800pro in most benchmarks.

Yes, NVIDIA has gotten somewhat of a bad rap lately because of the DirectX9 Half Life 2 ordeal and cooking there drivers for higher 3dmark scores but this truly is the best bang for the buck out there at the moment.

the ti4600 owns the 9600xt, get at least a 9700 pro or dont downgrade

not 100% agree, but going from 4600 to 9600xt is still a major upgrade for ATI has better image quality and faster performance with AA/AF enabled ... but to go with the flow here .. 9700pro can be had at around $190 (have seen some in anandtech's forum and amdmb ..) spend the extra $20 and get the 9700pro instead :D
