I'm getting ready to place my order with Excaliber for the following:

Abit NF7-S Rev 2.0 motherboard
AMD XP1700 DLT3C JIUHB 0310 (you know the one)
SLK-900u heatsink
ThermalTake A1357 Smart Case Fan II
1x Corsair XMS PC3500 512MB (will get 2nd stick next month)
Antec True 550

Is the SLK-900u much better than the 800? I'll be sticking with air for a long, long time so I need a fairly decent heatsink.

Will the Smart Fan work for my purposes? This will be my first serious o/c'ing rig and will mainly be for games. Or would it be better to just get a 80mm Panaflo for it?

As far as the power supply and RAM, these choices are not actually based on this current setup, but were chosen for eventual longevity, ie, I don't want to have buy newer stuff within at least a year, hoping for 2.

Also, since I am here, I have not really seen anyone use the NF7, people seem to get the NF7-S. Now, my observations have been that the NF7-S has the SATA and slightly better sound...but the thing is, no one seems to be using the SATA and saying the controller chip is crap. So, is the $20+ worth it to get the NF7-S over the normal NF7?

Let's see where to start:

1. The SLK-900 will give you 2C-3C better temps then the SLK-800.
2. The smart fan will work fine (it might be a little loud at full speed, I'm not really sure I've never had one)
3. You've made very good choices for the RAM and PSU.
4. I think most people wanted the SATA for future upgrading (thats what HDDs are moving to). As far as the onboard sound, the NF7-S has the SoundStorm chip, whitch is the 6 (or was it 5) channel sound. It is by far the best intergrated sound chip there and from what I hear it will give you very good performance.

Over all you've got a nice setup there. Let us know how well it does.
