Ok, so I am thinking of saving up for an asus eee 901, with 2GB RAM, a 16GB SSD and a 1.6 atom processor, now I was wondering, I have seen videos of it running windows 7, BUT, can it run windows aero?? and if so, does it slow it down a lot?

Another question I have on it, is, can it run Leopard 10.5? I have installation disks and can get ISO's but could it run it? and if so, would it run as a usable computer? eg. it would be suitable for light photoshopping etc.

I want to get one too, but I'm going to stick with a linux distro, especially since ext4 is out and supported by my favorite distros now.

For photoshopping, GIMP suits my needs fine, or you could run photoshop through WINE if you're set on that.

Found a youtube of build7000 on one. HERE

In the betas there are some login issues, but it seems to work well otherwise. I don't know if the RC has the login issues.

I have Ubuntu-eee on mine, and it runs Compiz flawlessly. That's not Aero, but the capabilities should be similar.

While the 'capabilities' are similar the windows version trends to eat CPU processing and RAM like a fat chick with a wish sandwich. I"ve run compiz fine on a 1Ghz and 512Mb RAM, Which Vista and (probably, as i haven't gotten a copy yet) Win7 would choke and die on.

Windows 7 on 512 and 1ghz is just as bad as vista. Idle it was using 750 megs.

win7 Runs great on my EPC 1000he. Everything works perfectly. hotkeys, overclocking, Games, Backlight control, etc... Win7 handles my ram usage so much better. Idle is about 506mb out of 2GB. With programs it uses all of it to perfection. Never experience slowdowns like I did in XP. Because of this it is my main OS.

One problem which may be a turnoff is that win7 is more taxing on your CPU than XP is. For example Hulu 480p video's and 720p run slightly slower and less smooth in Win7 than XP simply because there is a tiny bit more overhead. But the merits of win7 over XP makes it a winner in my books. (Not like XP was the smoothest playback in the world, it was just slightly better)
