As stated in the thread title, I will be purchasing a new laptop and I have a budget of $1,000.
I have found a lenovo 12.1" for a decent price, but it has a Core duo t2300 in it. Will I notice a significant difference in getting the t2300? I was told the Core duo is not a 64 bit architecture whereas the Core 2 Duo is. Now, I'm not sure what programs in the near future will require 64-bit architecture(such as browswers, media players, programs for students etc). I figure games will require it, but I do not play many games anymore.

I really want to purchase this lenovo 3000 v100, but if the core 1 duo will hinder me, then I'm not so sure I want it.

And please, if you can, post some suggestions for a laptop that is 14.1" or smaller that has a budget of 1k USD including the warranty. =]

You can buy core duo laptop. If you will need laptop for just typing, internet, burning cd/dvds and other small stuff. I have in my laptop with t2050 cpu and I am quiet happy with, it does what it does and has good battery life. Though I don't play any games on my laptop

Windows vista will be available in 32 or 64 bit version but to run vista you will need more beefy laptop than for running xp. Vista has more eye candy features which should slow down a laptop. That's the reason I will be sticking with xp for a while.

Most core duo notebook can be upgraded to core 2 duo processors. Price will fall on core 2 duo processors over time. Right now if you watch ebay, you can get T5600 under $200.
