Will any speed of the same kind of CPU work in a motherboard? Like my dad has a Dell with a AMD XP 2.5 (I think) & I have a AMD XP 1.2. If we switch I know the faster one will work in mine, but will the slower one work in his?

It is a little hard to say without some idea about the motherboard in each system. Also, those CPU specs don't tell us much. Both CPUs appear to be Athlon XPs but 2.5 and 1.2 don't really tell us what 'flavor' they are. AMD processors are usually labeled something like " XP1700+" or "XP2500+".

One way to get some info is from the desktop click START, then Control Panel, then System. Under the General tab, you should see some indication as to the CPU specs.

There is also a program you can access on-line called Belarc that will give you system info.

Finally, Dell often uses modified BIOS settings that make system upgrades difficult to impossible.
