hi,
i have:
amd athlon 1gig
asus a7v mobo
vantec 6030d hsf
i did the pencil trick on the cpu
the problem is that my board wont let me do a multiplier greater than 10.5, i put it at 11.5 and it showed up as a 9.5. so the most i managed to get out of the system was 113 x 10.5 = 1186. is there a way to get more?

Try do re-do ur L1 bridges. Be sure to check that the bridges don't touches each other.

Obviously the unlock has worked since you are able to get a different multiplier to the stock one. Hence you do not need to re-pencil.

Ed Stroligo had similar problems with the A7V upon its release a good while back. Amazingly though in some cases the problems vanished without doing anything. Try a BIOS flash to the 1007 or Beta 1008 BIOS and see if the problem is resolved.

I had problems with my EPoX 8KTA3 whereby I can't select a 7.5x multiplier when I'm trying to do high FSB clocking past 160Mhz - I flashed the BIOS and Bingo!!!

When I did the briges the first time I could only use 7x, 8x, 9x and 10x. After I re-penciled all the multiplier settings worked. This has happened to me before, also with other CPU's. So I think It's worth a shot to re-do the L1's.

I have a factory unlocked 1400 Athlon, on the same mobo, and can't get my multiplier above 11x, any increase above this will still work, but will only give me 1466MHz, or 11x. FACTORY unlocked!!!
no answer to your question...........sorry, but i will keep you posted if i find anything......Good luck.

do i have to remove the old pencil job? ie. erase it or is there another way to remove the pencil job?

Good idea to erase and start from scratch. Better to use the "defog repair kit" which is conductive paint. I did it once and it has worked ever since no problems.
Be sure to wipe your bridge work with acetone (nail polish remover) before redoing.
Clock on!

u can use alcohol or nail polish remover sparingly.use a magnifying glass to inspect.the defogger is the best connector imo but the pencil is supposed to work.i had the same problem with some multipliers not working and others working and with close inspection i had over lapped two connections.with the defogger paint its permanant,i used a toothpick chewed flat till it touched both bridges and have since made stencils to do this.

Also make sure you have the latest BIOS update, 1007. without this update the mobo isn't meant to go over 1 ghz. With the update i can go up to 1250 mhz. You probably already did this but its worth a check.

I've had some problems with multiplier adjustments with several boards. My EPoX 8K7A will not let me choose a multiplier of 11 or 11.5 (just will not boot) even though I can get up there with FSB overclocking. Fortunately I'm running at 9.5 * 150, so those higher multipliers are not necessary. I'd try repencilling, and flashing the bios as others have suggested. If that doesn't work, then it must just be a problem with the board.
