i just bought the equipment to do this

i have a 40W soldering iron and the 24KOhm resistors

but the problem is that i dunno how long i could keep the iron on the board and/or the resistor

also, is there another guide about this mod other than the one at tomshardware?

plz help as i want to o/c more from my duron 750

thxthx

Any thing more than 5 seconds is going to be a problem. Tin you leads first, heat the joint and apply solder till it flows and then get your iron out. Perhaps you should practice on an old scrap piece of electronics first. I would suggest using a trimmer instead of the fixed resistor. You can find more information here.

i have read the guide but i dun quite understand

what exactly are the specs for the pot?
also........where do i ground it?

You can use a 49 cent 47K trimmer from Radio Shack, part # 271-283. Put the trimmer on a small piece of breadboard and use velcro to hold it to your motherboard or motherboard tray. For a ground, I prefer putting a spade or loop on the end an placing it under one of the motherboard mounting screws. From the back of the trimmer use the center and left pins. This way to increase the voltage, you turn the trimmer clockwise like the volume control on consumer electronics. Be sure to tie the wire down near the voltage regulator IC so you don't accidentally snag it and ruin your board. A dab of five minute epoxy works well for this.

When it's all together, turn the trimmer full counterclockwise, boot your computer, start Via Hardware Monitor and set the polling interval at 2 seconds. Slowly turn the trimmer until you get the voltage you want. If you go too far, your computer will reboot. Back the trimmer of a tad and you are done.

.............i was going to mod my board but....b4 i mod it i replaced the thermal grease on my cpu and i chipped the whole edge of my cpu....now i lost my duron 750.....and replaced it with a duron 600

i hope to get better results from this cpu

thx a lot

and.......is it ok if i use a 50kOhm pot....? since i dun live in usa or canada i cant buy from radio shack

50K pot will work just fine. Sounds like you need better cooling if the summer heat is preventing you from OCing.

well....i m using a fop32 now........what would u recommend out of the followin?

fop 38, cak 38, wbk 38, alpha pal6035

Probably the CAK38 out of those, but of course then you have to put up with the delta 38cfm 'screamer' :)

If you can get one, go for the thermalright SK6 or the Millenium Glaciator - I don't think niose is too bad with those, and their performance is second to none.

There is a volt mod article on my site (first posted here at oc.com), but it probably doesn't say anything you haven't already heard. Also, I like the idea of using a pot rather than a fixed resistor (I used a 24k fixed on mine) - gives you more flexibility.

i can stand the noise as i heard it b4

it's not that bad in my opinion i can stand it....

but is the cak38 worth 50$ usd?

that's the price in hong kong....which i believe is quite expensive
