I'm finding something odd with the anti aliasing since upgrading from cat 3.7 to 3.10. What's happening is that it apears that while using 4x aa I'm getting more jagged lines than I used to with the 3.7's. Has anyone else noticed this?

Turn up the AA

I had to turn up my aa to 8x. Im thinking its the Speed that these new drivers render? I had to back off my OC on my card By 5 Mgz for both gpu and mem, or id get artifacts. BUT, My games are running on average, 10-15FPS faster with the 3.10 driver.

there is no 8x aa with ati cards, max goes up to 6x. If this is true that they lowered aa quality to get more speed I'd be very disapointed in ati.

i havent noticed any changes in image quality, and i play mostly RPGs so its something thats pretty easy to notice for the most part. I run all my games at 4x AA and 16x AF

Now that you mention it, I can sorta see a tad bit more aliasing at 6x than with my 3.9s. Nothing really big, but it is barely noticible on the UT2K3 intro (which is hard to apply AA effectivly to).

Oh Man Major Brain

Fart. Ive read so many PM's today I got mixed up. I ment to say 6X. I Play all my games at 6xaa 16xaf AND i set the aa and af Performance to quality. Quality is a must.

Update: now I know I'm not crazy, upon playing the simpsons hit and run (game benefits hugely with aa) there is considerable aliasing going on whereas on 3.7 everything was completely alias free. I'm going to run 3dmark right now to see if my performance while using aa has gone up since 3.7.

ok results show that I lost 48pts since 3.7, also seemed like 3dmark looked more aliased too. God I don't know why this is driving me so insane but it just is. Can some of you also take a look into this to see if you are producing the same results?

Ok I'm gonna try reinstalling the drivers when I get home from work to see if that helps remedy the situation.

There's an odd situation with the newer cats (actually, the new CPanel) where it sometimes doesn't apply your AA/AF settings unless you use "custom" values. It's kinda dumb, I've already put in my $0.02 about it to the catalyst dev team.

Try using "custom" settings at 4x or whatever and check it out again. It's annoying, but that usually fixes the issue. Sometimes saved profiles also don't work; ugh.

I always use the custom settings, and never really messed with the profiles as they don't auto set themselves when starting up a game. I'm headin off to reinstall the drivers to see if that fixes things.

Well after redownloading and reinstalling the drivers I'm happy to report that AA is now functioning correctly. It's odd though I'd custom set it to 4xaa 8xaf and then click apply and ok, and it wasn't working. Perhaps something was wrong with a few of the files the first time I downloaded it.
