Does anyone know if the 760 chipset from abit will be compatible with the athlon 4 . When the athlon 4 does come out will it need a special motherboard chipset to take full advantage of the chip. or is the 1.4 already the athlon 4

I can say with confidence that the 1.4 GHz Athlon (socket A) chip that is out right now is NOT an Athlon 4 aka Palomino, it's just a faster clock speed TBird. As far as the 4/Palo working with the KG7, I can't say for sure. I know that the Palomino is supposed to be able to work with the KT7A, but that is a different chipset. I am guessing that once the chips are made available (via OEM trays or in boxes) companies will start releasing BIOSes that will make their motherboards work with the Athlon 4. Abit isn't too bad about getting BIOS updates out nice and quick so I expect it'll be compatible at some point... maybe not just yet.

As you mention both the KG7 and the AMD 760 chipset, I was wondering if you were aware that both have minor problems.. the full reports are on the front of overclockers.com

Yeah, I know.... but you know what? If you wanna have nice, cutting-edge stuff, you pretty much have to acknowledge the fact that you're going to need to wait for fixes for some stuff. Computer parts are rushed to the market with known problems and it's just a fact of life. It's the reason I waited until February to jump to my Duron/KT133A system. I want things to be mature (to a degree) when I buy.

The only problems were that you could only use ecc only in all 4 dimms or 2 unregistered ram
