Don't buy an Abit Sh6 MB if you plan on getting any video card with a Nvidia Ultra Card. It won't work. I have spent hours trying to get an issue resolved. Here's the take on it. Purchased an ABit SH6 MB in Dec. AGP slot was bad altogether. Returned it got a new board. A TNT2 Ultra AGP works fine in it but when I put in the Hercules Prophet2 Ultra I get scrambled letters on the boot screens and If (BIG IF) Windows boots it has dots and lines all over the screen. I talked to the Vendor (Allstarshop.com) and their tech support says it has to be a compatiblity problem. SCREWED they don't cover that under warranty. I tried to get in touch with Abit tech support and hung up after 2 hrs on hold long distance. Anyone else have similar problems. Or a suggestion on a MB that I should buy. P3-700 Asus Slot Adapter 256mb Promise Raid card w/2 30G WD Harddrives,SB live, LinkSys Ethernet card.

Yeah I agree haven't been overly happy since I've gotten mine. I keep getting this PCI system management bus that wants to install all the time and can't find a driver for it. I sent two emails out to tech support with all the info they request from the manual and no response. I've called only to get put on hold, transferred, or hung up on, I agree this is not a board to purchase, I thought it would still give me all the flexibility that my old abit be6 II rev 1 would but boy was I let down. Wish I would have went with Asus.

Broad statements are like broad chicks - fat and smelly.

There's gotta be a lot more to it than this.

What do ABit have to say about it ?
What does the Vid Card manufacturer have to say aswell ?

Geforce 2 Ultra's take a lot of power - have you upped the I/O voltage and enabled the side band addressing ?

As for a good motherboard - for some unknown reason I'm leaning towards the EPoX 3SPA3 - very very tweakable for an 815ep

This may be a bit outta line for here, but if either of you want to trade that sh6 for a Msi Bxmaster and a few bucks, LMK soon please, as I am in the market for the sh6, and am running a matrox card, so I don't think I'll have the prob..... I've heard before of others with the issue with the vid, but am willing to gamble on messin with it.

Not too much can be worse than buying what you think is a decent board only to find out there's problems. I, too, have an Abit SH6. Had problems with an GeForce MX. Yeah, I know it's not an ultra but, still a Nvidia of a recent type. I found answers here : http://www.tweak3d.net/faq/
Maybe you'll find something there. Perhaps, since this is an new board, ABIT has a fix in an upcomming BIOS release. What I needed to do was to unistall the specific monitor drivers for this monitor. I ended up re-installing them later after I had installed the Detonator drivers and things are fine. I hope your answer can be just as simple.

I have the board and run a visiontek gf2 ultra no problems. Also a p3700 @1130 160fsb no problems. Did you disable the audio 97, Game port address midi port address in the bios and all other stuff you arent using printer port com 1 and com2 whatever applies. That sucks you cant get it to work I had a lot of problems getting this board set up right with irq conflicts etc, but now it runs just as fast as my old be2 rev 1.2 board. I wish they would put a i/o voltage in a new bios and a few more voltage selections. I also have that same problem with the unknown pci device cant seem to find out what the hell that is but it runs fine. MB monitor states my i/o voltage is at 3.24 which is kind of low maybe your card doesnt like it. Also when you get those scrambles lettters are there smiley faces and other weird **** on there. I had the exact same preoblem trying to get my network card installed after three attempts at win98 and one attempt at 2000 I thought I had a hardware problem. I wiped it clean and did a win98 install without the setup /p s they suggest in the bios to enable acpi and everything installed fine. I still have acpi in my device manager so who knows but I could have sworn it was the board but is was fing drivers.

Abit asked me what psu (300watt) I have and I replied, thats all I got from them. Sent the card back once to Hercules and got a new one. Nothing wrong with the card itself. There is no way to up the I/O voltage in the Bios. It reads 3.17 which is prob too low from what I hear. As for the side band addressing, tried that both ways. Thanks for the reply
