what is the onboard ac97 audio and modem controllers?

my mainboard has no onboard audio or anything and i have these both options in the bios. i have a soundcard and a cable modem, should them be enabled? i mean, in the automatic option.

It was optional on the tusl2-c/intel 815EP. Leave them disabled.

The reason that option is enabled in the BIOS even though your board doesn't use it is that your BIOS can be used in more than just that one board.
