Adjusting Thermal Throttling?

I'm running into a small issue with stress tests, in that when the processor reaches about 72c for longer than two minutes, the frequency is throttled down to help cool the processor a bit more (by design). P95 tests still pass when it does this, but I wonder if I should just downclock it. Is there a way to adjust when the thermal throttling sets in? Or should I ignore this?

Thanks for your time.

Thanks for that info, RGone. Though it seems the only way I can disable this is when Intel TurboBoost is enabled, and when I have an overclock such as this, I would really prefer to not have that feature on (a 5.2ghz turbo boost is rediculous)... Is there anything else I can do?

Is the 72C you're seeing the CPU temp. (Tcase), or the average core temp. (Tjunction) as measured by Real Temp or Core Temp?

There is an individual core ratio limit for turbo for 1 to 6 cores active, can you set them all to same as non-turbo multi.

Hey redduc900, The 72C is more of an average that I am generalizing, the values I see in RealTemp vary slightly between each core, but one solid example of when I can see thermal throttling is sometimes as low as this combination: 72c 71c 71c 68c something like that. Sometimes it can be higher or lower, but i would say the blanket average is around 72c.

I do recall you saying in a previous topic of mine indicating that Intel brought this throttling technology forward when the processor reaches temperatures about 67.9c, But another user by the name of Prime81 has run 24hr P95 tests with an average temp in the 80c range... Is this thermal throttling a feature built into Intel Motherboards?

That's a great suggestion, RGE, however I believe these controls you've mentioned only show up on Extreme Edition processors and possibly unlocked processors. Those controls don't show up for me at all in the bois :(

Thanks again for your replies, i'm sure a few of you have  a few times at these questions as I would think they are kind-of out of left field.
