Advice on 2nd build

I was just going to use the 256 GB SSD as storage. I don't save very many things on the computers and what I do is managed pretty regularly. (All my computers tend to only have 200 or less stored on them.).

Go with an i5 4460 and the cheapest H81 board. Better performance that way. Not that much more expensive. With the AMD setup youd bottleneck the 290.

CHANGE OF PLANS

Newegg seems to be running out of stock on a few things so I had to revise my list. Also, with some new issues with my budget, I need to keep the price around $700 or less. I think the items I selected were similar to ones posted before. This one is a little over budget at $750 before MiR, so I'm wondering if there is some easy fat to trim without sacrificing too much or if I need to suck it up and fork out the little extra money. Still open to suggestions. I plan on trying to buy the stuff tonight.

There won't be a whole lot of difference between this and the 860k build. All the components that was in the 860 build were newer. The 6300 is a solid processor for gaming. If you can try and get at least the 8320 though.

You NEED a better CPU cooler if going with the 8-core. Check the Xigmatek SD1484.
The TX3 is barely better than garbage.

Yea the tx3 probably would do about as good if not worse than the stock heating honestly. I'd try to at least get the 212 evo. Or just use the stock one with no oc till you can afford a good air cooler like the noctua or a good aio water cooler like the h100i or the swiftech h220x

I don't really plan on OCing it, but I still like the idea of an aftermarket heatsink. I'm just conflicted about a good price/performance one that will fit in my case. My understanding from an earlier post was that a heatsink that I posted was going to be too tall at 159mm for my case. Or did I missunderstand something?

If you build AMD FX for gaming you MUST overclock or you will be at a great deficit in Frames Per Second compared to a similarly config'd Intel build. In many games a 3.2Ghz i5 >> a 4.4Ghz 8350.

You have to overclock that FX. I suggest you ditch the SSD, go to an 8320, add a beefy cooler.

Or for the price of the 8320, beefy cooler, and board, get a darn 4460 and a $50 H81 motherboard $230 total.
You'll have a better experience that way.

That is true the 212 is going to be a little tall. Forgot about that but the tx3 won't help much if at all with the fx series.

Personally I don't have a lot of experience with other heatsink that may be shorter and just as good. But if truly set on aftermarket heatsink have you checked out some other cases. There are a lot around the same price point that would allow the 212.

The fps difference isn't going to be all that noticeable in gaming unless he's using fraps and just wanting every little bit he can get.

I am not dead set against OCing it, I'm kind of liking the 8320 set up but if anyone has a low enough profile heatsink to fit in my case that doesn't cost a fortune (I would like under $30) then I might go that route. I personally like the 212 that I have used before (I'm going to investigate into maybe a bigger case and see what turns up)

I'm not sure if i'm 100% accurate but I have a 212 in my full size case (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...m_re=cooler_master_haf-_-11-119-160-_-Product) 9inches wide and it is 1-1.25 inches (maybe 1.5 but not likely) from the door. So worst case it comes out 8 inches from the back so I would need a minimum of an 8 inch case like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...1&cm_re=PPSSBGDRYLXVJN-_-11-108-434-_-Product that comes in at 8.3

Edit: the one you posted is advertised at 7.68 which if my measurements are off and it's 1.5 inches from the door, that would make it just tall enough buy .18 iches. (in i'm right and it's closer to 1 inch then it's a no go.

Yes the 212 evo will fit in that case.

The 212 has a height of 159mm. The case you originally chose allows up to 159 although the 212s heat pipes will be right up against the side window and rub against it.

This other case does have sufficient room for the evo I am working on finding the max it can hold for a cooler.

Edit: Found reviews people stating they are using the 212 in IN WIN case and it barely clears the window so you will be good with that one.

Yup that should be a good build for you. I personally would swap the 500w corsair for the EVGA Supernova NEX 750w though.
