Advice on new build

I'm trying to put together my first ever gaming pc and I've spent quite some time reading and researching the last couple of weeks and although I'm nearly finished, i still would like a bit of advice on a couple of things.
My intended build will be used for gaming and 3D modelling.
And I'm planning on doing quite a bit of overclocking as well.

My questions are:

- Does it matter at all if i use 4x4GB or 2x8GB RAM? Am i right that with quad channel it is better to go for 4x4GB?
- Is my choice of motherboard ok or does anyone have any better suggestions?
- Will i be able to max out games with ultra settings and maintain a minimum of 60FPS if i use 1 GPU and that Acer monitor?
- What are some good but very silent fans?

You are correct, with quad channel you want 4x4 DIMMS

All choices look good to me. You want 4x4GB, correct. That single card should max out most games just fine, yep!

Couple things that jump out at meh

- Bit of nonsense going for a 144hz monitor if youre only concerned with 60fps. You can save yourself literally hundreds of dollars here by getting a qnix 2710 and overclocking it (most are known to hit 96, quite a few are 120hz when overclocked). Tons of options there.

- If youre doing lots of work, you should most definitely get a normal hard drive for backups

- 850w is a bit overkill there. 600w is probably overkill honestly. You can save yourself a chunk of change by stepping down out of the 850w range. Great PSU, but completely unecessary. Seasonic m12ii 620w would be a fine choice for that setup.

- do you REALLY need a blu ray player?

- TONS of better options for headphones. With some savings on the monitor and other bits and pieces, you can step into a very high quality audio setup. Thats an entirely different conversation.

I agree with Bob here, it seems like a lot of these items are not needed and are mostly just price padding. There's a lot of overage that can be trimmed by addressing things such as the monitor and the blue ray player, why not just get a $20 read and write and call it a day?

You just want to make sure to avoid bottlenecks in your build. Don't have a 4K monitor with a 720P capable GPU. It's a bit of a stretch of the situation but it's similar. While some things are pretty and shiny and look incredible, you could buy 2 or 3 monitors which are compatible for your build for the amount you are spending on 1 monitor which is too much for your needs.

- I'm definitely not only interested in 60FPS. It just want to be sure that at the very least i will be getting that with every game maxed out. I probably should have instead asked how high i can roughly expect to max out games on a 1440p at 144hz.

- What do you mean with normal? Is that WD hdd not good enough?

- I'm actually considering getting a 1000w instead. It's very likely that i will be running SLI in maybe a year or so. PCPP has my current build at around 560w already so wouldn't that be pushing the PSU a bit? I also don't want the fans to be running at near full capacity all the time.

- I don't absolutely need the blu ray but it's not even $20 more than the same model without it.
Even if i only will use it a couple of times it's still worth it for me.

- Headphones have been changed in my newer build. Probably will go for the V Moda M100 instead.

So a GTX 980 Ti is not enough to play at 1440p and 144hz with maxed settings?
I've played with 144hz and I'm definitely not going back to 60hz anymore.
And i don't care for multiple monitors, id rather have a single bigger one instead.

Some titles you can reach 144 FPS/Hz, not all. Depends on the title and your settings in that title.

Depends on what you are trying to improve.

I am just saying, don't sweat trying to reach 120/144Hz or FPS. Just let the 980Ti do its thing on that monitor with no goal in mind and I am certain you would be happy.

The hardware at this point is becoming something that we as humans have trouble even noticing. I mean I assume that you are not professionally playing FPS games or anything so the 120/144hz shouldn't really be a breaking point on a monitor. With the 980TI and a strong 120Hz monitor, I'm sure you will be just fine without an incredibly noticeable difference.
