Not sure wether this is the right forum but here goes. The problem is i cant run my CPU @ 133MHz system bus the reason being everytime i get this message "BIOS rom cheksum error PLease insert system disk and press enter" How ever if i run it a little under say 130MHz it runs fine. But this means my memory is now running at 130MHz aswell. My question is this, is the extra FSB worth a drop in memory?? also does running 130MHz bus mean that my AGP and so on is working slower??

Yes, it does mean that everything in your system is working slower, but not THAT much slower. 3FSB points isn't a whole lot. My big question is...is your processor supposed to be 133FSB by default? Is it a 266MHz FSB processor or a 200MHz FSB processor? That will explain a lot and I'll run back through this thread after you post and we'll get this problem figured out.
Thanks

Did you lower the mulitplier from 9? I don't think that 900 Mhz Athlons are 266fsb.

The processor default is 200FSB and yes i did lower the muliplier it seemed that whatever multiplier i used if there was a 266FSB present i would get the bios error.

Well, I think your best bet is to just drop your FSB a couple points and not worry about it. That may be the ceiling for your CPU and system as a whole.

My motherboard uses the kt133a chipset, do you think by dropping a few fsb to 130 system bus i will loose much bandwidth on the AGP slot, there must b more bandwidth than usin say the default system bus of 100 ??

At 133Mhz, AGP = 1/2 or FSB and PCI = 1/4 of FSB.

So at 130MHz:
AGP = 65MHz (lost 1 MHz)
PCI = 32.5MHz (lost 0.5MHz)

Shouldnt hurt performance that much.

What is the memory timings that u r using I had problems running my memory at 133 or above (in my duron system) w/o it failing, after I set it from CAS2 (2-2-2) to 2-2-3 the problem went away.

*EDIT* or maybe ur chip just needs a lil bit more Vcore

well i set the memory to use 133MHz in bios cas 3, but when using 130 bus it only runs at 130 according to cpuid

KT133A supports 133MHz/266FSB now the only thing we need to find out if your CPU can. What happens when you set it at 6.5 X 133? If it's stable could you run Sandra benchmarks to compare it to 9 X 100 so we can all see the difference:beer:

Heres the benchmarks, it will run at 133*6.5 but anything after that things start to happen i.e bios problems.

Well the higher clockspeed wins obviously;

9 X 100 = 900MHz
6.5 X 133 = 864MHz

So that wasnt news. Did the 1/4 divider kick in or did you have to set it in the BIOS or did you have to physically flick a switch on the board? Try the slower ram timings if you have them.

How about;

6.5 X 139 = 903.5MHz
7 X 133 = 931MHz

A few questions;
1. How familiar are you with the BIOS and/or switches on your MoBo?
2. How is your understanding of tRAS, tRP & tRCD?
3. Have you done a BIOS Flash before? Reason being that some of the preset values for the above parameters might have changed
4. What are the temps & voltages like?
a. CPU
b. NorthBridge
c. Ambient

Sorry if they seem a bit small
Try doing a Alt+Print Screen while the window is not maxed. You should be able to get a better cap that way & you only get the top window;)

Where to start, lol
1. Im quite familiar with my bios and switches on my board
2. tRAS, tRP & tRCD what, i have no idea here???
3. I flashed the bios not so long ago to the latest version available at the soltek website
4. well im currently running 38 idle 42 load with 130*8, the northbridge has the stock heatsink on it there is no fan or anything present there. Case temp is 22 as i type
