Well my ramp now shows 13th by the end of next month. I have a 1200 Tbird to add and need a HD and PS to get a 900 duron up. That will squeeze of a few more PPW. I guess I may have to add some rigs by Assimilation after that to move up. To this point I have folded to where I am by building my own rigs. I take a lot of pride in the fact that I got here with just my home grown rigs. When I started last May and had 2 rigs. The addiction set in and I slowly built a small farm and here I am with 12 rigs, 1 furnace, and a thinner wallet. I have deffinatly learned to build systems on a tight budget. One example is the .99 16 port hub I got from ebay. I bought it long before I had all these rigs but now it's a god sent. Watch for bargans put 'um back and FOLD ON!

Hawk, I also started about 1 year ago (April 2002... I think). I have mainly used my own personal computers at home, although I have occasionally had 1 computer at work Folding (currently a PII 333). I started with a PIII 667 and a PII 450. I currently have 7 computers Folding at home, 6 in my home office and my wife's in her sitting room area. I would say that about 90% of my computer equipment was purchased either from the Newegg Refurb section or local computer stores (Best Buy, CompUSA, etc) with MIR. I remember one time I got a CDROM, Floppy drive, keyboard, mouse, NIC card, and 128MB PC133 memory all for FREE after MIR.

It has definitely been fun, but I don't think I will be adding any additional computers at home. I don't really have room and the wife says we have enough. However, I am planning on upgrading some of my Intel Celeron Tualatins to AMD Tbred's in the future.

arn't you guys obsessed :p i mean seriously, is having extra comps really contributing that much when their are lots of users. i know folding is for a good cause but wut inscentive keeps you guys doing this? just having a higher score? i fold on my one comp, but having 7 comps running is costing you electricity money, not to mention computer hardware, even if gotten cheap....I still say their should be $$ bonuses ;P just like giving blood, they don't give you money for it, but they expect you do pay for it don't they? i may be wrong on the blood thing=)

the extra computers don't hurt the power bill too much and besides that it's fun. if you do it just for the cause your prolly going to get bored and not care as much. for most of us it's not just the cause but the competition as well.

oh ok i see =) well i would start doing it but you pepe already have a yr on me, so no point in competing =) and if you say the electricity is cheap, how cheap? for instance, my main rig is loud and cranks out lots of heat, so i'm assuming it uses a bit of electricity.

look around the case and powersupply forum it will tell you how to figure out how much power you're using. unless you have a great OC going you're probably pulling about 70 watts of power with your CPU. that's most of the power being used.

giving blood and helping an organization research diseases are two totally different things. plus alot of people have to give blood at their jobs or at school and they don't get much more than a cookie or an orange.

don't mind me i just don't like doing things for free =) but i will still fold, just not go crazy and have 5 comps hooked up, but if one day i do have 5 comps hooked up, i will most likley fold on each.

5 rigs?? I have 12 10 of which I built just for the thrill of the chase...well not really I have diabetes and have been sticking myself with a needle at least 2 times a day for 20 years and I would love for that to stop.....the answer is out there we just need to find it. And besides 12 comps make for a great furnace. ;)

LOL i'm just trying to understand, and i think instead of building all these comps you guys should be educating users! think bout it, like those chain letters you see going around, you could say, if you could fight cancer for free, would you? then send them to a download link. It's very easy to get this program running, and the screensaver would be very non-problematic. As for building lots of comps, that's great! i see it as much as a cause is putting money in a can to help stop cancer, aids etc..

You do it your way and I'll do it mine. It's a nice challange to keep these rigs up and running at peak 24-7-365 just my 2 cents

I can see both sides - on the one hand it's great to compete but on the other it does cost you money in electricity and parts, and there's other side issues like increased risk of fire (small but still there) etc.

Ideal solution? Borg someone elses machines - no bills to pay and more power to the cause, perfect! That Wedo knows the score... :)
