I play call of duty, I recently switched out my NF7 for this A7V400-MX for my mom, well I need to use this as a backup computer and it has:
ThermalTake 480w PSU
Athlon AMD 2400
2x256 Buffalo CH-5
9700 non pro

I shouldnt be getting terrible fps in call of duty when I used to get 125+ constant with the same settings. When i check my ati driver settings it says agp is off... not at 4x or 8x, but when i set it in the drivers and reboot its still 'off', the bios seems to be set right, and fast write doesnt want to turn off either, im assuming this is where the problem lies, am i missing something?

Download Everst Home (free) and check in the display>gpu section. See what it says there, just something else to try. More people will respond, just give them some time, this is a really good forum from my experience.

Reinstall the chipset drivers

I actually just dealt with that problem myself. You probably just need to uninstall the chipset drivers and reinstall them. Hopefully it will be that simple for you.

In my case, it took a little bit more tinkering because VIA didn't do a good job setting up their uninstaller. So I had to also manually remove the agp driver file from the "windows\system32\drivers" folder (it was called viaagp), then delete the associated registry entry (using regedit and doing a search for viaagp), and also delete corresponding files from the temp folder under documents and settings. Then I reinstalled the chipset driver and AGP 8x was back (confirmed by Everest as micros mentioned).

Oh yeah, and just a word of warning -- Be careful if you manually go into the registry or the "windows\system32\drivers" folder. I accidentally deleted the VIA RAID driver as well and my system couldn't boot. I got it back up by booting from my backup drive and restoring the driver files I erased. Whew, that was a close one! :)

I beleive in XP SP2 you want to use the MS AGP driver. You dont need the VIA 4in1's AGP with SP2 on VIA chipsets. Thats what Ive read somewhere, I think http://www.viaarena.com/ is where I read it, not sure though. Also have you tried running a 3dMark test? Post you score that might help to see how its performing.

Ill ask my cousin when he gets home if his says anything in the AGP part, he has a 9800pro. Also download the 4in1's from viaarena and if the AGP driver even shows up for install, try installing it. Mine it didnt even show up because I have SP2 installed, they say in the read me they only installs what they needs to.

Ya check back later, Ill ask my cousin what his says and post it. Also you might wanna post this question in the Viaarena forums too, get more people on the subject. Might just be normal behavior.

If the board has onboard video you may wish to disable it and make sure the monitor is plugged into the video card?

Also make sure any auxiliary power connections are in place and that the card is firmly and correctly in the AGP slot.

Last thing I would try is clearing the CMOS just in case.
