Well I just got my PC formated then I installed windows XP pro.... I did it without a bootable CD :O... someone here said it was unable to be done, but I finaly tryed and got it installed :)

I didnt know of any easy way to format my hard drive other than with a win98se boot desk so i used that, then I got my 6 setup boot floppys for windows xp pro once it was done with them it asked for me to put me windows xp pro cd in "which was an upgrade cd"... and it just installed normaly :)

the winxp cd is a bootable cd. you can boot to that, format the hd and install straight away.

thought i dont know if its different from the upgrade version?

i install it from DOS all the time

just go to i386 folder and run winnt.exe and it will run the DOS setup, btw i am talking about the full version not the upgrade version

the upgrade version should still be bootable. that's so you can do clean installs.
did you set the bios to boot from cd?

I'll see if that works :) If it does it will save me lots of time :)

All Windows CDs made for a few years are bootable. My 98 CD is, and so is my XP Home Upgrade. If it weren't, newbies wouldn't be able to install it because they'd get too confused.

oh i didnt know that. well the full version is certainly a bootable cd, anyway

Unless you have to boot from floppy so that your CD-ROM with the botable CD can be seen,(MY Unfortunate prediciment). Then It decided to corrupt itself so I just said screw it and installed Mandrake 8.2. :D:D:D:D
