9800Pro? DVI Length Cable question?

Hey Guys,

I am in the process of putting together an HT system and I am going to need to run a DVI cable about 30'. Anyone know if my Radeon 9800 Pro will power the cable by itself, or will I need an external source.

I hope not, considering the DVI cable is gonna cost around $150 bucks. The god damn amplifier is around $300.

Thanks guys.

Sorry, Home theater system. Going to be using my PC as a Highend DVD player, as well as, well, a computer :)

It's going to be approx. 30' away from the front projector. I hear alot of problems of running DVI cable longer than 3 meters. But some Radeon cards and the Bravo V Inc DVD seem to be powered okay passed 30 feet.

Thanks if anyone knows

I set up a office projector system. 30' shielded DVI-I cable. 9800pro AIW. Canon 5350 projector. 1024x768@60Hz. No signal issues. System worked fine for 4 months, until...

...One day it stopped. Projector displays "no signal". Same thing happens on a 6' cable too. Funny thing is that it still drives my 19" fp via DVI just fine over either the 30' or the 6' cable. No, the card didn't break, same thing happens w/ another AIW 9800pro I borrowed from a friend.

Makes me think that I'm experiencing the dreaded ATI-supports-DVI-as-a-box-spec-only issue that I've seen posted so many times.

VGA via the dongle works fine, but signal degrades too much over 30' at 1024x768 so its not an option.

I don't think the cable length was an issue though. My 5 other nVidia systems can drive the projector w/o issue over the 30' DVI cable. ;)

As I need the AIW features for my presentations I don't have the option of giving up on the AIW.
