I was currently looking at purchasing an abit vh6 II allows for udma 100 yet only .2v over spec as usuall now for newer p3 boards. But I started thinking about the future after reading about abits release of the of their vh6t, virtually identical to vh6II, yet capable of using both .18 and the new .13 micron chips I thought about waiting and holding out for this board,it will allow for the newer p3 and higher celeron chips when they come(cdo spec). but i believe there is a p3 266 version by some manufacturers that also can use both .18 and .13 micron. Maybe that would be the better choice since ddr ram is dropping rambus lost the suit and would be more feasible to buy. Thereby i would be able to carry the ram over into future upgrades years down the road.So what do you feel is the best choice should i just sell my board and go to the vh6II wait for the vht or jump to a 266(don't know which one?) but i would prefer to have the .13 option. Expert prohetic opinons please but don't bother mentioning dual or p4 I am looking at a single cpu only. So any choice boards give them a mention.

you might want to wait on the DDR boards, i saw some benchmarks over at toms today, and they were pretty nasty. Looks like everyone rushed them out, just wait a little bit and see what happens in the Intel DDR market.

while you wait you may want to think BX they are aging but still faster than the best newer chipsets.... just dont have all the goodies you now come to expect, but they are cheap if you can find one.

I still run a BX board and swear by it. Going to stay with my BX till i go 64Bit
sure i only have AGP 2x and UDMA 33, but the board still rocks

if you want to know how vh6-2 overclocks or you want any advise about this board just ask or email i'm running one now, with a smaller chip under a gig i think there fine but at 1g it has its limitations no VIO CV only goes to 1.9 but other then that its been a great board

Hey Tachyon, i'm not sure what your asking, what info would you like me to post? my progress in trying to find ways to modify the board, what ive done to my PC using this MB, or was it that my reply had no benifit to other members?

You imply that you have knowledge on overclocking the board....if you could post it it may help other members.

VH6-2

now on this MB i'm running a 1gp3@1225 stable and pretty cool i'm using a coolermaster HSF lapped as well as the proccesor, radioshack compound applied, ive replaced the greenie northbridge HS with a quite large HSF that I cut down to fit and ive done the same for my GF2mx[32] also rounded all flat ribbon cables. Also a small HS on clock generator. 2 case fans and ive ducted my proccesors HSF to draw cool air in from outside the case. Cut a hole in MB tray to install small fan on back side of proccesor did not use a large fan for 2 reasons one it would not fit without being on outside of case and 2 because you really don't need all that much air to get good results and to much air will give you false temp readings with your thermistor under proccesor. FSB is at 163, 256 corsair133 cas 2 to100 cas 3 at 133, allthough in bios i have it set to cas2 and i get better sisandra benchmarks. this MB does have some good points if you like a VIA chip. FSB goes up to 200 one at a time so you can fine tune your settings, VC will go up to 1.9 wich is holding me back rite now i'm looking into doing a mod by adding a pot to my IC chip [power management] but so far I cannot find the FB pin i'm still looking to find out who makes the chip but ive been unsuccesful so far with luck I will find the specs and I will solve this problem, There is no VIO settings and this to me is the MB's biggest downfall for overclocking, this MB does have good memory settings in bios so you can tweak your set up to get the most out of what your going to choose for memory,[host, minus, plus, clock speed] [your ns speed 8,10,normal,medium, and turbo] [cas 2 or3] I think I should have purchased corsair or crucial 150 cas 2 instead of the ram i have now. temps running seti are 29C with 25Cambient temps but my thermistor is not touching the proccesor so my actual cpu temps may be a few C higher. This system is stable 100% @163FSB I have had windows loaded @169 but locks as soon as you play any games or seti or sisandra. oop's a few more things i'm running the cheapest cd drive and floppy that i could fine and have no problems with any of the two, hard drive is a cheap generic 7200rpm 10g fireball no problems there either. in all I think this has been a good MB for my first overclock, everything ive done to this system ive learned here at this site :)
