Ok, the same guy that told me My older IDE drives would not be stable on the KTA Raid board also said that I HAD TO have an "ATX" rated Tower or Case to put the new KTA board into.

Is this more garbage?

I currently have a full sized tower. 21/2 ft tall, same length. Looks like there is ample space in there. I imagine the screw holes won't match up because my other MOBO is pentium based. But I am pretty good a "rigging" stuff. Couldn't it be MADE to work? I am just trying to avoid spending any more money than I have to. Also, I am probably NOT going to OC much. I might (might) take a 750 tbird to around 900mhz. the tower is going to sit under a desk, out of view. I can drill thousands of "air holes" to eleviate the heat IF OCing raises the temp that much to be dangerous.

Ok, I am all ears. And one more thing........since I am probably NOT going to OC at all......I won't be needing any extra fans, diesel engines, or jet propulsion coolers like you guys need. Currently I have a 200watt power supply. Right now that is handling everything I need. If I am not going to OC, do I REALLY need a higher wattage? I don't know that the KTA/ (or E) needs any thing specific to run. Does it? It may REQUIRE a 300 watt deal, I don't know. Enlighten me.
You guys are the best. I have learned a lot in two days. help me here and I think I am home free. Thanks

I would strongly reccomend a 300 wat power supply if you want the system to be stable.TCWO has some great cases with great power supplys and they are inexpensive to. Usually this is the case I buy when I am building a system. For only $6.99 shipping up to 150 pounds for as many items as you wish; what a killer shipping deal. If the case is an AT style the power supply will have a different connector and the on off switches are totaly different so rigging the board to fit would be a nightmare.

You should be able to make the tower adaptable to the Abit w/ a little modification. As for the PSU, I would definitely get a good 300+ PSU. It is better to have too much power than not enough. Enermax are very well made PSU.

Well, I am going to make a suggestion that will cost a little more money now, but will serve you for years to come(I suspect).

Since you are going to be dropping ~$50.00 on a quality power supply, why not buy it installed in a quality tower for not a great deal more money. This assures you of the proper form factor, instead of guessing.

An Antec SX830 is a full tower, with one of the finest 300 watt PSU's that you'll find. The highly rated PP303X. This combination of components will serve the vast majority of users very well. It is not a budget buster, and can be found shipped for around $90.00.

I try and cut corners wherever possible, but a good case and PSU will last you through many upgrades. It's a good place to spend a little extra.

Just to keep you straight: There are basically 2 setups ATX and the older AT. The differences are A) the powersupply connectors. ATX has a 20 pin connector to the motherboard. AT has a 12 pin connector or two 6 pin connectors. B) the holes in the back of the case. ATX has the ports for things like the printer, mouse keyboard... built into the motherboard. The holes in an ATX case line up with the ports on an ATX motherboard. AT usually has little cables and headers that can be moved around. At this point you would have to look hard to find an AT case. If you have anything faster than a Pentium 90 then you probably have an ATX setup. It really does not matter if it is a board for Intel or AMD, the case usually has holes for several sizes of boards.
At the point you are at, just count the pins on the powersupply connector. If you have one with 2 rows of 10 pins then it will fit.

I agree - a new tower with P/S is the least hassles solution

Thanks to the guy that explained the ATX tower thing. YOU WERE RIGHT!!!! I already had/have an ATX rated tower. Why in the heck would I buy another one?

Thanks.
