well long story short at work a guy told me he was getting a computer custom built for 3000 i asked if he was going amd or intel he's like screw amd intel is only way to go amd is not compatable with anything now a days and they are easyer to hack and they can overclock automatically which will make them fry so im hear :rolleyes:ing my eye's out and trying to keep from beating him

but hes like ya well anyways amd HAS to be 6 months behind intel cause they have a contract that tells amd to be 6 months behind

k im total positivte thats totaly redicoulously untrue im right right?

:eh?:

HAH. Did you tell him about the athlon 64 bit chips that are putting a whipping on the p4's? Man, intel is good, so is amd. I'm partial to amd, but am I a fanboy? To my wallet. I go where I can get the best bang for my buck, amd or intel, and right now, it's amd. I mean, when I can get on newegg, and pay about 140 for an athlon xp 2800, or pay 200 or more for a 2.8 ghz p4, I'm going the amd route, especially when you consider the athlon is supposed to do better at games.

What I find sort of sad though, I looked on newegg.com today, and the 2.8 ghz celeron is 126.00, and they were out of stock when I looked. If the people would only realize that for 10 bucks more, they'd get a chip that would put that celeron to shame.....don't get me wrong, the celeron is ok if you have the ram and a good vid card, or if all you do is surf, email, etc.

Your friend can have his opinion and pay more, I'm quite happy with my amd 2800 and over a gig of pc 2700 ram, I could probably almost buy a stick of 512 mbs in that speed for the savings I'd get on the chip, or that would be a nice chunk of a video card. Everyone has their opinion, some guys like intel, that's cool, they aren't bad. But amd 6 months behind?? Your friend needs to learn what he's talking about.

Btw, as far as overheating, nah, just so long as you keep it cooled enough.

Man, 6 months eh? I suppse that's why Intel has a Consumer level 64bit proc that beats out most of AMD's 32bit procs in lots of benchies... In 32bit mode.

LOL i brought up 64 bit and hes like ya intel is so far ahead then that stuff its so old and ya he said they overclock them selves automatically which isn't true

but that contract crap is totaly flase right cause that would be completly irresitbly stupid

i dont bother arguing with people like that. I just nod my head and say "wow, thats a kickass system".

it just reminds me how fortunate i am to know how to build and troubleshoot my own systems; FOR LESS!

:D

Why would AMD sign a contract with Intel that told them they HAD to be 6 months behind? It's bad business. And if Intel had the money to waste on paying AMD to stay behind, I would think they'd sooner just buy AMD out.

Sounds like a steamin' pantload to me.

lol
yeh theres this kid at my school like that. lol its so funny he constintly acts like he knows so much, but in reality he knows almost nothing
he's soo annoying, i have to try my hardest to keep from laughing my head off.....

Lol, that's one of the funniest stories I've heard in a while. Don't waste your time talking to him, even if you do tell him the truth he will refuse to believe it. Some people are just like that, nothing you can do about it.

Yeah, I know someone like that. He swared his PII 350 system was the best in the world with its TNT2. This was only 6 months ago. Now about 2 months he buys parts a new system with a 2600+ and a ti4200 and he says that his new video card outperforms fx5950 ultras, and that no radeon could ever stand up to it. I mean this guy bought 2 bad procs and a bad mobo from tiger direct, didn't try to return him and he still buys from there. And the most hilarious part is he thinks he knows twice as much about computer hardware as me, even though I assembled the majority of his computer because he didn't know how. Since I got my new rig completed he's been even worse, saying that it performs like dog **** compared to his even though mine has superior components than his. I'll just say I don't do favors for him anymore.

why are you attacking somone who is not here to defend themself?

they can overclock automatically
-using the MSI neo2 my processor DOES overclock automatically. it is literally impossible to run stock speed on the processor :). (not that i want to) and default settings in bios dynamically overclock the processor when 3d apps are open.

I dunno about overclocking, which the P4 does BTW, but im having a problem with my a7n8x UNDERCLOCKING! :(

I don't mean to offend you, but it will really help if you put some commas and period in your sentence. Makes the reading a lot easier.

From my point of view, there is not much difference between getting an Intel or AMD. If your friend is using the computer for gaming, he should put more money in the video card instead of the GPU. Games nowadays are more dependent on GPU than CPU. I dare to say that (just using intel and Halo as an example) that a 1.8Ghz with the 9800 pro will perform way much better than a 3Ghz with a 9500 pro.

It's simple economics, no company would ever sign such a contract nor would it ever be legal for the government to impose such a ridiculous rule... and it does not benefit the government if there is no competition in the CPU market. If you get into the specifics of the pipeline length and the whole architecture of Intel Vs AMD you would find that you're comparing apples to oranges. You cannot simply say AMD is behind by 6 months since each processor has strong and weak points... and the whole MHz vs MHz thing is a really poor measure.

Regardless, this guy is a tool and he will be for the remainder of his life unless through some miracle he either becomes more intelligent or decides to listen to reason.

Just be happy that he is wasting $3000 on an inferrior comp... even the least savvy computer technician could piece together a top of the line Gaming rig for half that price.
