Hey guys,

Im getting close to having all the necessary parts for my new system.

As of today Ive purchased:

Case: Antec 300
CPU: Phenom II X4 945
Mobo: Biostar ta790gx a3+
PSU: xx 500watt
Monitor: Dell 2209WA 22inch

Now I dont know very much about RAM, much less DDR3 ram. I dont need anything super high end, but would like something that performs decently.
Any suggestions?

As for GPU, Im not as hardcore a gamer as many of you by any means, Ill be gaming at 1600x1050 MAX on my 22 inch. Looking forward to playing Mass effect 2, starcraft 2 Allan Wake, alien vs predator etc..

No overclocking initially, but will probably do a mild OC later on

Im was thinking of getting the 5850, but dont know if its overkill for what im doing. I was thinking of getting the 5770 with the intention of later running it in crossfire in 2 or 3 years (as the card ages and is unable to deliver good fps). Suggestions?

Any other words of wisdom I should be asking for?

Thanks in advance for helping a newb out!

Cheers,

Anthony

The 5770 is a good choice at the moment. It will last you quite a few years.

For ram I personally like corsair, muskin, or gskill from newegg.

Can I ask what PSU you have?

Thanks Marsh. I was worried about getting the 5770 and having it only last a year or so.

My PSU is hand-me-down from a friend, Ultra Xfinity 500.
Ive heard bad things about Ultra PSUs, so im probably going to switch it out with a better one in the near future.

My motherboard is said to support DDR3 dual channel 800/1066/1333.
So 1333 is my max speed right?
New egg lists three types of 1333:

1333 (pc3 10600)
1333 (pc3 10660)
1333 (pc3 10666)

Not sure what those second set of numbers mean...Which one should I try and get?

Thanks again guys.

dont know about the ddr3 speeds but so far i'm reading the 5770 review. they say it's like lower power (100w~ sounds sweet)dx11 version of 4890.

edit:I didn't read the reviews indept but the 5770 vs the 4870 and 4890 is actually slower because of a smaller memory bus of 128 bit vs 256 bit memory bus.

its better to crossfire 2 5770s though.
