i emailed asus and asked if there will be a new bios for the A7A266 mobo to allow multiplyer adustments

this was there reply

Sorry, as you known, the CPU Multiplier is locked by AMD, so we don't clear whether there will be a BIOS which can adjust the multiplier.
Sorry for your any inconvenience.

hmmmmm ... does asus think that amd cpu's are locked... or is this what amd is telling asus so they make boards without multiplyer adjustments

In general AMD attempt to make multiplier locked CPU's from my understanding although some unlocked CPU's do occasionally slip through. However it is possible to unlock AMD CPU's using different techniques such as pencil, solder, silver pen and probably a few more. On the front of this site it has a article on unlocking L1 bridges with solder which is well worth a read, and http://www.tweakhardware.com/guide/duron-pencil/ for a bit of information on the pencil

From my understanding the L1 bridges control the multiplier and
The L7 bridge controls voltage. ( http://www.tweakhardware.com/guide/duron-voltage/ )

I don't have any experience of doing this as my CPU was factory unlocked :)

How did you word your question? I do not think they understood you. Remember english is not their first language. I think they thought you were asking if they were going to make a BIOS that could override the L1 bridges being cut.
