Hi, I recently bought a Asus A7A266 mobo, with a Duron 750 with plans of getting a athlon later on, I burned out my abit bp6 and wanted to get a cheap system until I get money to upgrade. So far I like what I have, I got the duron to 943(7.5*125) and cant get the FSB higher while aircooling it. I tried to turn on the dip switch feature on the mobo so I could change the multiplier, but the system will not boot after. would some one be able to explain what I am doing wrong ? are duron multiplier locked ?

Please feel free to respond with any information. Oh and this is my first AMD system and I am loving it :)

Yes Durons are multiplier locked, i think only 1.2 Ghz and above Thunderbirds come factory unlocked. You can easily unlock it in about 5 seconds with a pencil though, some people recommend not using a pencil but i have unlocked a good 20 CPU's with it and it works fine.

Hey thanks alot Aman99, that is what I was thinking, but I wanted to be sure before I do anything. So what type of a lead pencil is the best ? and what are the chances of messing the cpu up ? because I just got the chip on the 19th and the store has a 7 day return policy :)

any type of a reply is appreciated

Heh, thanks for the advise. I still have a few days to mess around with the chip.
