Hi, can anyone tell me how to overclock my AMD K6-2/500? Any web-sites I have seen tell you how to overclock a AMD K5 or AMD K6-2+ but none has anything about the normal AMD K6-2. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

You need a very big heatsink. I have on that can cool at lest 1Ghz ahtlon, I have replaced the 60mm fan whit a 80mm to get the K6-2 500 stable. I recommend lapping the heatsink you can also lap the K6-2 500, I did that. Use very good thermal grease between CPU and heatsink, you also need some case cooling. You can tray whiteout the case first. I have my K6-2 500 AFX overclocked to 550Mhz at 2.5V. When it runs at 500Mhz 2.2V it produce about 20W of heat and when it is overclocked to 550Mhz 2.5V it produce about 30W of heat and I can tell you that when I play Q3 the air that my 80mm case fan throws out is sometimes 7-8 C over room temp. I wold not go higher then 2.6V if you can get it stable at 2.5V or lower it’s good.

well i am useing a difrant mobo it's made by DFI the P5BV3+ rev B4 old i know but it works :) well any way after replaceing my cirex 300! that sucked like hell i was prity happy with the performace incress hell i was staticy :) any way recently i agin have frouned on my processors performace compared to the newer next gen ones so i desied to do some mager *** over clocking! i got a alpha cooling unit and two 120mm fans from coolerguys.com combine these two and hehe well need i say more i got this pupy up to 650mhz!!!!! fromt the orginal 500 id say thats one hell of a over clocking it nevrer gave me a singel problem althoe seting the jumper cabels was a little chaleng considering it wasn't ment for that :)

oh yea be carefull if your gona do that i tuck off the alumenum shild on the prossor (be extramly carefull in doing this) this also makes it more stabel even if your not over clocking :)

even after all of this it steal is on the sweety side thoe shes runing at 129F at this moment im looking into a cheep water cooling system for this pupy

Well, I run a K6-2-450 AMD on a p5a board @600mhz..(6.0x100)running 2.2volts on the core.Cpu temp is 93.motherboard 75F. It's stable as a rock.Your 500 will do the same thing.More if You have some good ram and a good video card. Use some radioshack greese (or better stuff)between the cpu and theheatsink..just a thin coat.
I am using a Supermicro760A case.it has 7fans and a 300watt power supply..best money i ever spent in computers was the case. The k6-2+ 550 is the OEM chip for lap tops runs at a lower voltage and on a thinner wafer if my memory is right..In the K6-2 chip the AFX chip is better than the AHX.--later--Kenny
