One of the first things I do is disable the zero fan function on any AMD card.
I've never touched that on any card. It's honestly one of the best things implemented. None of these cards need fans at desktop so why have them run?

Whatcha all finding? Power profiles future drivers may load?
Que?

Kind of like when AMD tells you 95c is normal and acceptable for their newer cpu's. They may be correct, but I choose to not go there for the long haul. Never had a video card fan quit because of age or use. Same reason I implement my own fan curves for cards/cpu and case fans.

It's not even kind of like that :). These idle (desktop and YT/Hulu) in the 40s. When needed, the fans ramp up... which is in the 50s? I don't recall offhand. Low though. It's not like it waits to get hot then they turn on.

Me either. ;)

Funny.. I rarely change them. If I do, it's to make it quieter, not the other way around. :)

I may just disconnect my fans on my 9070xt as i have so much airflow its rediculous. I cant wait to set up a fan curve as now how its setup running all fans at 100% i just left the filter on the bottom and top as it actually does affect the CMF's of output.
i have 12 x 120mm fans and a fan on my ram and on my NVMe drive. So 14 total.
Im putting the GPU in a vertical mount and see what needs to be done to help it stay cool. I wont be adding anymore fans.
Also im going to undervolt the card and OC it in due time.

Jesus... no. Don't do that.

While it's fine on idle, they intentionally shut off, it won't be on load.

Don't.:)

Oh i was just joking, my mobo is not plugged in and im feeding the fan header straight 12v off the psu. So i have no fan control until i plug and boot my mobo up. ill then setup a fan curve in the bios or with software.
12x 120mm fans running at full speed when i want to watch my case and admire it is rather loud.
I gotta admit its loud and its not fan noise its air moving making the noise.
I actually had to order a 2nd fan controller so i have more options.

have you found it easier or harder with temps when using a vertical GPU adaptor? that will save me alot of testing time if you have a good answer.

Dont be sad, just be glad you get to eat food this month that isnt Raman noodles.
IMO $1k for a GPU is stupid, But i had the green and i would have just spent it elsewhere.

Yeah but... two things:

1. It isn't just about YOU: Encouraging this kind of stuff is bad for EVERYONE. It's bad for the whole market. The only way this insanity will ever change is to let cards with ridiculous markups ROT. I've seen it happen time and again with other devices. When Atari went bellyup you could get any system you wanted for about 30 bucks.

But I was SHOCKED when I went into Kohls one day and saw they were selling the Sega Saturn for $50.

That was a $400 system at the time...

This would happen with video cards, too (and even quicker) if people just said "Meh..." to 40-60% markups and spent their money on Pelotins or something instead.

2. For the same money... You could've gotten a 4070 TI Super (readily available stock) or a 7900 XTX... or literally any other card that isn't marked up to the moon. (And quite a few that are on sale.) If you needed some kinda temporary card that you could resale later for the same price... or more... then your choices were even greater.

The point being there's NO REASON to ever do this. (Unless, for some ungodly reason, you're writing reviews for free and the manufacturer has not provided you with the card... in which case you should probably be looking into a new profession.)

All it does is hurt the consumer... one card at a time.

Each case is different beacuse of different airflow. But I have to admit, I don't take that into consideration as I'm not chasing after every degree Celsius and there aren't any performance differences between them. I like the look of the vertical orientation, showing off these expensive toys, so I went with that.

Test it, cause I know ya' wanna', and let us know what works better in your chassis. :)

The vertical mount showed up today, But if it fits at all its gonna be very tight. I dont care about temps much long as it doesnt throttle. Later this week ill try and set it up.

EDIT, i installed that GPU vertical mount and its just too massive. It takes up every card slot in the case and blocked both of my NVMe Gen4 slots and also id have to eliminate two 120mm fans.
So most likely its going back to Amazon.
Sad as its was sturdy as hell.

Curious, which did you get? The one I have (linkus I think is the brand) doesn't block the nvme slots on my board, then again, they all sit flush under the built in heat spreader on the motherboard. Mine has a extension cable that fits into the pcie slot. But I will admit it takes up every other expansion slot on the back of the case (maybe one is free), but I don't need any of them.

Mine also does not block any fans, but I can't recall which case you went with (mine is a lian li dynamic xl)

Hey boss! You may want to start a build thread that covers the trials and tribulations of your building adventure. This way the AMD RDNA 4 thread (or any others) can stay about that and you get any help you may need in thread specifically for you. Maybe at the top/in the first post, write out the parts so we all know where you're at. :)

Until then, Like janus, I'm having trouble understanding how a vertical mount blocks any NVMe unless your drive has a massive/tall heatsink (as they fit under the heatsinks on the board). Fans too... what fans do you need to take out to install the vertical bracket? The bottom fans? You do have what, 10 fans, so losing two isn't going to do much (except perhaps make it quieter).

Hey guys! First let me say my GPU is a day early and will be hear any moment.
Excited is an understatement.

I have aftermarket cooling heatsinks on my lower 2 NVMe drives they stick out as they use heatpipes. But they are 3 and 4th GEN drives so they dont get very hot. id have to go back to my mobo heat spreader which
I use a Mustek case a Lian li copy. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CP7SQ58Z?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title Yes i have 12 120mm fans as i went push/pull on my AIO and id loose two from the bottom.
My biggest issue is it blocks my Cmos battery making it hard to reset the bios after a failed ram overclock.
Ive had my ram up too 6600Mhz CL32 but i was just playing around. ATM im at 6200Mhz CL30 and tight timings with no additional voltage. I did a RAM benchmark and a disk benchmark and with both i scored in like 97-99% fastest scores recorded. So im on the right path to have fun. Boots into windows in like 12 seconds, Ill need to time that. Plus my game drive has 6 games on it and ready to play.

Before i forget do i need a video cable to use over the HDMI cable on my VGA?
Also anyone have a suggestion on a sound system i just need a 2.1 ?

Sorry... I don't recall... but your motherboard should have a button on the rear IO, or a jumper on the motherboard (see your instruction manual as I have no idea what board you have). Removing the CMOS battery is an old school/last resort these days. ;)

Ahh, that's right, we mentioned you didn't need them on those drives in the first place. One option is to remove the heatsinks and just use what came with the board. Again, you're not going to see those drives throttle anyway and they're causing a lot more strife than it is value or performance (none).

Anyway..............................

Id ask this in your build thread. This one is about AMD RDNA 4 GPUs, not people's build updates and questions. Start your own thread covering your build and you can ask questions about it in there! :)

My keyboard wasnt fully charged as its wireless and i was locked out of my bios until i remembered i had a game pad and i got in that way. The bios flashback i need to read more on but last i saw it was a USB drive and done in the bios. But im most likely wrong.
I have the Asus TUF B650 Plus Wifi and the wifi isnt working yet.
I do have to watch one of the drives in those NVMe slots as its my Game drive which is a Gen4 Crucial T500 4TB
Ok so make a thread in the GPU AMD section?

I had my pc town down to basically just the mobo was installed as i added another fan controller, So im not ready to tear back into just yet but i think ill end up using that GPU mounts i see my fans are just fine even if i loose 2
I think im just gonna get a basic $100 sound system but im not sure if i need the video cable whos name i cant recall but its better than the HDMI allowing better bandwidth. Even on the iGPU the video is incredible and i cant wait to fire a game up.

EDIT: found the cable. its a "Display Port" cable.

General Hardware is where I would do it. Your questions are far beyond just AMD, right? (they are)

Ask in that new thread, bud. Again, this is about RDNA 4 GPUs not build suggestions and questions. :)

I'll answer those questions there!

Use this to easily clear cmos if your mb does not have a button... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01J9KO7D...2M04X4CT&psc=1&ref_=list_c_wl_lv_ov_lig_dp_it

Most folks use a DisplayPort cable nowadays...if your monitor supports it. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07ZF6PSF...D2M04X4CT&ref_=list_c_wl_lv_ov_lig_dp_it&th=1
