"According to a Geekbench submission discovered by Everest (Olrak29_) on X, the upcoming AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D has been spotted running at a clock speed of 5.46 GHz. This is a 260 MHz increase from the official boost frequency of 5.2 GHz, which indicates overclocking has been applied."

"Regarding performance, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D outperforms its predecessor, the Ryzen 7 7800X3D, by an impressive 24% in the single-core Geekbench v6 test and 23.61% in the multicore test. The last generation CPU scored 2,726 points in single-core and 15,157 points in multicore tests, while the new Zen 5 design has managed to produce 3,473 points in single-core and 19,216 in multicore tests."

"When KitGuru reviewed AMD’s Zen 5 Ryzen 7 9700X we advised that you wait until they launched the inevitable 3D version of the CPU as we were sure it would be a banger. What we didn’t know then was that AMD had a new version of 3D V-Cache in the works that would move the dial significantly. Locating the 3D V-Cache under the CPU cores, instead of laying it on top, gives a boost to clock speeds and also helps temperatures. Hail to the Chief."

Skimming through some reviews now. Limiting this to 1080p and minimum of 10 games tested to ensure more of a spread. Comparing against 7800X3D.

TechPowerUP +4% - 10 games + 4 RT games (overlaps with the 10). 4% is low, but may be in part due to the use of the RT games which push the limit more over to GPU.
Tom's Hardware +15% 13 games
Hardware Unboxed +11% 14 games

AMD's previous claim was "up to an average 8% gaming performance improvement compared to our last-gen generation"

My guy starting out on the couch, lol...

The 9900X3D can't get here soon enough... LOL. Chomping at the bit to get rid of this 13900K and move to AMD.

Did you mean 9900X3D or is that a typo?

Having had some time to think more, the reaction to this release seems more positive than I was expecting. Even before the reviews we knew this would be the fastest gaming CPU and the official pricing. It generally meets expectations, not exceeds them.

From a pure gaming perspective I wasn't expecting anything to say I have to replace my 7800X3D with it, although it would still be a nice to have for the improved AVX. Will they announce the 9950X3D before I give in on the 9950X for my other system?

I moved back to AMD in 2020, its been absolute smooth sailing ever since.

Just like running an old Intel, but stronger, and faster.

De8auer delided the chip already. Showed with easy overclocking you can do 5.6GHz sustained.

Give me that 6.0ghz sustained overclock I've always wanted. I'm going to do deliding for this chip.

Man, this little 8 core is pretty decent. It smokes my 12 core in everything. I know my stuff isn't new anymore, but it is still impassive to see a gaming CPU do well in everything.

Are you sure ... like really sure ... really, really sure?
Heh...I should have said, holding off for now. But this isn't a review hand-me-down. It's coming out of pocket, so....

I also would like to cut back on power/heat/noise.

LOL, not a typo. 9900X3D was correct. I don't want an 8c/16t part after coming from a 24/32t config. Do I need more, not really. I'm just proud that I'm holding off on the 9950X3D as I really don't need that.
FYI im not sure they will launch a 9900x3d this time around its not guaranteed and depends on how Epyc is selling (which is everything they can make). You may have to settle for a 9950x3d if you need more threads than the 9800x3d.

I will probably end up with the 9900x since its a great value and the x3d probably wont make a big enough difference since I game at 4k.

This would be the first time I heard anyone say there's a chance the SKU won't release, I appreciate the heads up. :)

Help me out. What does Epyc have to do with a 12c part? IIRC, Zen5 Epyc doesn't have a 12c SKU in the first place. The 16c parts (outside of the "F" SKUs) have less cache than 9800X3D. I'm having trouble smoking what you're passing to me, IV, sorry.

What an awesome little chip. Dethrones the 7800X3D by a fair margin, which was the previous gaming king. 65W average gaming power consumption, which is 92mm tower heatsink territory. 120mm single tower if you want to run it hard on all cores.

This new gaming king would also make a great small form factor processor. Why am I building full tower rigs anymore?

Never mind,

I misunderstood the conversation
sounds like they WILL be making one after all.

Man, this modifies my thoughts about the 9900x if there is going to be a x3d part then it may offer the best gaming AND reasonable workstation performance for me. I may have to just wait longer.

I'll see what is available at the time of 5080/5090 (depending on price/performance). This chip looks great, but like ED 9900X3D may be a perfect workhorse without going overboard for 9950

I'm probably buying one - "the 9800X3D"- I have been sitting on a 7600X and its decent for the most part mine sits @ 5.5Ghz all core on any load under 70*C .

I wanted a X3D since the 5800X3D though and have been waiting.

I will probably just keep my ASRock X670E Steel Legend and my DDR5 @ 6000mhz with 30-cl and tight timings for now.

I really cant see any benefits getting a x870/E etc atm.

Perhaps in the future ill do a board upgrade if it makes more sense.

GPU upgrades have been delayed so ill just stick with my 6900XTXH @ 2.8ghz for now

I wonder if a Block with thermal pads under the backside of the Chipset would do much considering the 3D Chips are also on the backside of the CPU in 9000 series.
