The price was so damn cheap i picked up this amd processor "athlon throroughbred xp 2000" and was thinking of dropping it into my soon to arrive asus a7n8x delux board. I am somewhat new to this overclocking thing and was hoping for any kind of info on this. Can i overclock this one and if so how much of an issue is it? I do not want to get into watercooled fans, but would like a fan that can handle the overclocking. The specs on the chip lead me to believe it's the crappier one .......

Am I shift out of luck or is it doable?

Thanks for the help..I hope!

Tom

It is a Tbred A, it mostly will max out at 1.9 to 2.0 GHz on air.

Since you just got it, can you return or exchange?

Thanks but should i.....

Should i look for another processor for this mobo ....everyone mentions this amd 1700 b ....is that the way to go? I can always use my 2000 for machines i build for others. Any recommendations?

Thanks,
Tom R

For the Tbred B 1700+ DLT3C, most ppl can get it up to 2.2-2.5 GHz on air. If you want some probability and expectation, just look at a local poll put up by {PMS}fishy and you can compute an expectation for each frequency range. I think the only way to find out is to try out a chip, and these chips have good chance to get high oc.

How Fast is Your 1700+ Tbred-B?

E.g. as of this post, there are 155 votes
2.5+ GHz 11.61%
2.4 - 2.5 GHz 18.71%
2.3 - 2.4 GHz 22.58%
2.2 - 2.3 GHz 16.77%
etc, etc

The poll includes different kinds of cooling.

It is one of the best overclockable CPU, around $60-70.

Other good AMD CPU for oc'ing are: Tbred B 2100+, Barton 2500+. But the 1700+ has the highest probability to get to the highest clock freq and raw CPU performance.

I am at 2400+ speed and only 182 FSB.

who??? im lost

My post on the top .......i have the thoroughbred "A" right? Or do i have "B" With the info from my first post what will i get out of that chip and how do i do this? ...Thanks!!!!

ummm ok i had and did again

The first post and next response wasnt the issue someone later on mentioned something about a "b" processor and I thought that it might have been directed towards my post. That was all ........didn't mean to start a problem. All is good!

according to your first post your stepping is RIRGA. this would be a tbred A. every tbred B i've seen has had the stepping end in the letter B so i would think it's safe to conclude that Tbred steppings that end in A would be Tbred A's while Tbred steppings that end in B would be Tbred B's. my 1800 is a JIUHB. therefore a Tbred B.

I have never heard of a Tbred B XP2000 before where did you get it from and are you sure that is the right info on the cpu?

From the AMD datasheet 25175 Rev H, there are Tbred B 1600+, 1700+ (1.5V, 1.6V), 1800+ (1.5V, 1.6V), 2000+, 2100+, 2200+, 2400+, 2600+.

I am aware of that data sheet and have quoted it before - but I have yet to physically see a XP1600, XP2000 or XP2200 in Tbred B format.
