i was just wondering how the multitasking capabilities of the x2 impressed/dissapointed you. i was originally looking to buy one but somehow got sidetraced into getting this expensive/dissapointing rig

Might want to consider Opteron dual cores, they range fmo Opteron 165, 170, 175, and probably the 180. All have 2x1MB of L2 Cache, while only the X2 4400+ and X2 4800+ have 2x1MB of L2 Cache. The Opteron dual cores OC quite well too, and at lower stock vcores.

I'd say they should definitely have noticeable gains in multitasking and using many applications, I have an Opteron 175, but without a mobo yet.

im impressed with the fluidity / transition from game to desktop, and of course the multitasking. the interesting thing is that if a program freezes, i can still function and let it sort itself out. i think the most i've had running at once was the HL2 hammer editor, HL2, winamp in the back, and the help / tutorials on my other monitor.
when i think of how a "top of the line" computer functions, it's exactly this. i thought i was getting a mid-high comp when i bought my 3700, but the 3700 at 2.7 can't even compare to this.
i really can't even imagine buying a single cored proc for myself ever again.

umm... can you say 600 PPD!!! so far i love my X2 i find its actualy snappier than mu dual xeon and I attribute this to the onboard memory controler. Its super fast rendering video and DVD's i think from the second i hit render to a burned disk was all of 5min for a 5min video project i did for school.

I am really happy witht the cpu. It does its job well...I am kind of used to it now but when I first got it I was like wow...wow...and awesome.

Now I kind of expect the performance. I am use to playing css in window mode while chatting on msn and surfing the net at the same time. If an app does not start like pronto I get kind of ****ed off...I dont like waiting but then again most of the time I dont need to.

I can say I did not see the power of the cpu until I had video encoding on core and tons of other crap running on the other and I was in awe...really nice cpus.

4400 seems to be the best one from what I have read, I got the4800 as I had never got something that was like 'top of the range'. I would always get on lower and OC it or something along those lines...I think that has kind of carried on into the gtx's and now waiting silently for the dell 30" to replace the dell 24".

I love mine to death. The only issue I have is that I went with the same quantity (512MB) of ram as my old system.. Hah. I find myself using much much more memory than I did before.. so I guess I'll have to add some more :)
